all about THAI - Winnipeg

Local friends of ours wanted to take us out for Thai food. Their usual places didn't have room so we came here. The food was great and the service as well. We received good suggestions for the main courses we shared. Desert choices were fried bananas w/ ice cream, Asian banana crepe and vanilla honey toast. Curious, I asked what the vanilla honey toast was and the server if I wanted the long or the short answer, so I said short. He said 'Mountain of Goodness'. At that point I couldn't resist, so my wife and I shared one. Instructions were to eat slowly and make sure you had ice cream with each bite. It was great. See attached photo.

I cannot say enough about this little restaurant in the South Osborne area of Winnipeg. The couple that run it - the girl is Thai and the young man is from Hong Kong - work all day at their engineer jobs and come here to their dream. Crab Rangoon is the best in the city (and we have tried every one). The spring rolls are homemade and never greasy. We go back and forth with their speciality dishes. I have never been disappointed. The young man will help you with your choices and the 'heat' rating. We took our granddaughter there for her birthday and they made her a special dessert. We didn't know what she would think about the food but she loved every bite. Seating is limited so go early, make reservations, or get there just after the dinner rush. They are closed on Sundays - hey! Everyone needs a day off! It is across from the Royal Bank where Wong's Cafe used to be. They are working on signs and will be painting the outside this summer...go in. You will be glad you did.

Bangkok Thai is situated on the second floor of a building at the intersection of Osborne and River, above Second Cup. I would give it a rating of 3.5 out of 5, but I added an extra 0.5 for the excellent service.

I only ordered one main dish and an appetizer, but I was extremely disappointed with both.

During our trip to Winnipeg, my family and I dined at this charming Thai restaurant for the second time.
