El Fogon Mexican - West Des Moines

Honestly, who cares how good the food and service are if the men’s bathroom consistently smells like fermented raw sewage. I honestly almost threw up after using the restroom… so gross!!! So long as their bathroom is so incredibly disgusting, I can’t do anything but recommend people avoid this place at all costs; I’ve used several porta potties that were was more sanitary.

Excellent food and service! Manuel was our waiter. excellent and professional. Had enchiladas verdes. excellent green sauce complete with marinated pork. also enjoyed la martina enchiladas. they were perfect. no rice served with these 2 entrees but small salad was plated as a garnish and beans were also tasty. Chips and salsa provided. ordered white queso sauce. It was $6. I would say it was okay, not special. had beer on tap to drink and a house special margarita that was made with fresh fruit chunks and a delightful rim. Highly recommend for south of the border menu.

Usually El Fogon is amazing, but today was a flop. Both orders of the main dish were actually just two chimis cut in half (rather than the 4 small ones), and only one of each had any enchilada sauce on them., and the beef/chicken were dry. And both of the $7 elote corns were literally just canned corn with mayonnaise and toppings and not good. Really disappointing this time around. I'm tempted to go dine in later today and order the same thing to see what they put in front of me when it's not a Grubhub order...

My wife and I just had lunch here and it was a great experience. The atmosphere is comforting with beautiful authentic artwork, while the food was delicious and within a reasonable price for the portions and quality.
