Bidra med feedbackA very cool watering hole with that lovely DC dive bar charm, this place has a lot of character and more importantly, a happy hour drink and appetizers/small to medium bites menu that is fitting this Petworth haunt. If you 're there at the happy, try the special punch for the week it is a great start (and has a nice kick, so be careful! to many interesting cocktail options. I nibbled on the Pork Sliders and BBQ wings, both of which were very good! The prices were totally reasonable, too. There is a cozy library lounge back room that seemed to be the hot spot when I was there on a generally non eventful Wednesday evening. It filled up quickly, likely with those who are 'in the know ' of the spot. The bartenders were extremely nice and always around with great service. This is definitely a place I would check out again.
On most Friday and Saturday nights the bar creates a large menu of craft cocktails based on the chapters or sections of a current reading selection in the Loyalty Book Store out front. They have wonderful food ranging from vegetarian options to bacon on cheese fries (yum). But they get 6 Stars for creativity and the love of books. If you are a book nerd, it's a highly recommended stop. If you go, take a book from their lending library where your cocktails are served and bring one of your own back someday soon. See you over cocktails in Reading Room!
Nice bar with a pleasant atmosphere. It has some nice specialty cocktails, some local beers, and food as well. They also have a happy hour. Not sure how the daily punch varies, but when I had it, it we as a pretty good drink. It can get a bit loud sometimes. Overall, a nice place to relax.
The Citizen has been a great addition to the neighborhood. Draft beer selection is a little limited and u hear the cocktails are good but I've not had any of them. The food is really good and though it appears like bar food when you read it on the menu, it's far better than what you might expect. The mini tacos are amazing and refreshing and a great bargain. (happy hour special I think? The decor and environment is super cozy and they've always been good to families like ours with kids too. We love going early on Saturdays after they open at 4 or 430 (I forget which time when it's a little emptier.
This place has no tv!! This is a wonderful thing in a bar these days. And a total selling point for me. I love their Brussels Sprouts, cauliflower, and dumplings! The ambiance and mood is more 'speak easy ' than pub. It 's perfect for the neighborhood and you 'll see everyone from hipsters and punk rockers to parents with babies and your grandfather grabbing a pint. It 's truly an excellent neighborhood joint.
