Booked Sunday lunch, gave a French landline number. Arrived on time to find the restaurant closed. Went in via the back entrance to be met by a young man who said the heating had broken down. Asked if we had been phoned but did not seem at all apologetic. We had not been phoned, no message on the answerphone and no logged calls. Pity I have to give it one star.
We stayed in the hotel for a wedding and it had been recommended by family who live locally. The room we stayed in was OK, probably due a bit of TLC but more than adequate considering the price. The service, on the other hand, was absolutely fantastic. We were made to feel really welcome and they went out of their way to accommodate us quite possibly the best hospitality I have received at a hotel or B&B. We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and the food was excellent which was a welcome bonus.
Having had enough of rich food, Beryl and I stopped in St. Florentin for lunch. The place where we usually visit has closed up, so we selected Hotel de L 'Est, just down the rue. COLOR in the dining room. Wild colors, most amusing, we thought. But well done and with great flair. Friendly reception, cute kid (maybe two years old) assisting with a nice smile for us. We selected simple simple simple eats and knowing that egg dishes seemed to be the specialty of the village, we both had a mushroom omelette. With a half of the local white, of course....a nice and very crisp Petite Chablis. The only complaint was that the servings were too big for us to finish. And that 's not really a complaint, of course. We were the only lunch-time guests, made a promise to stop again, next time we 're in the neighborhood. But we 'll probably SPLIT the omelette next time! Recommended! G B Ray, now back in Wichita. Ah....Beryl 's reminded me that the small salads we ordered were super! Fresh, crisp, tasty!
Not many restaurants in St.Florentin so thank goodness for the Hotel de L 'est. This is a highly recommended three star hotel and the restaurant is up to the same standard. Helpful staff and most attentive waiter who couldn 't resist a little bat of the eye when he saw that I had poured my pineapple juice into the wrong glass but he whipped it away and returned with a clean one in time for the water. The set menu was 22 Euros and wine 6 Euros extra by the glass. The wine was a regional Chablis and very drinkable. It was possible to have a cheaper set menu with the choice of a starter plus plat or plat plus dessert. However, both the plat and starter were 'of the day '. The food was of good quality and the vegetables remaining as they should be slightly crisp. There was a constant supply of bread and my creme de brulle was to die for. All in all a most acceptable meal in a town with few eating options
