Spencer's On The Square - Retford

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant with its stunning surroundings. I am already looking forward to returning.

I took my family out for a delicious Sunday dinner and even our dog was well taken care of! We all had a great time.

We went to Spencers in the square to celebrate my daughter's engagement. Even though we had mentioned this when booking, it was not acknowledged during our visit. However, this was not a big deal for us. We ordered drinks and four different main courses. I opted for the chicken with honey and lemon sauce, served with skin-on fried potatoes and green beans. It was delicious but could have used an additional vegetable. The others ordered burgers, steak, and beef in red wine sauce, all of which were enjoyed by everyone. We have dined at this restaurant multiple times, including for Sunday dinners, and have noticed a significant improvement in both the food and service. The restaurant, located in the city centre, is beautifully styled and very comfortable.

This place really annoys me because he has such potential. The food is good and so are the drinks, but the service is sooo bad and was the last 4 times I have been for food. You sit down and take your drink order and leave with menus. Wait 10 minutes and they will come back to take your order, but still no drinks. There is no sense of urgency in each of the employees they simply sneak around. On the other night there were 9/10 employees (so they are not underoccupied! I was in my friends for lunch before we declared on arrival, they sat without menus. We had to go back to the bar and emphasize our time constraints and ask for menus. I just wish this was sorted out! Maybe we wouldn't be the only ones (a few women eating there on Saturday!

We love this restaurant and have visited regularly since moving to the area, the food is fabulous and the building is lovely. The staff are all very friendly but sadly the service lets it down very badly. The last few times we have been they have seemed disorganised and very very slow. Although we weren't in a rush it did take us nearly 3 hours to have a two course meal! Unfortunately this has now ruined our experience to the point that we will be looking for somewhere else to eat. Such a shame, this place could be really amazing!
