Oh yes the food is excellent and you will not be disappointed by the quantity either. Have been there several times and plan to make it one of our regular stops for dining out.
We had eaten dinner here previously and were impressed with the quality of the food and the service. We came for the early dinner buffet to give it a try and we were both overly impressed. The quality of the food is very important and we were not disappointed. We intend to be back.
A bit more upscale for Nipomo and the menu and wine list reflects this. Very quiet (we went Wed night) with music standards from the 50's and 60's, which pleased my 90 year old father. Staff was attentive and very pleasant, and the head chef as well chatted with us for a bit. I had filet on garlic mash potatoes, my father had scallop shrimp risotto and my wife had almond encrusted chicken. All dishes arrived hot and well prepared. Dinner came with salad. We each had 1 glass of beer so alcohol did not affect the price too much. Three dinners, salads and the aforementioned drinks came to less than $100, which is a bit lower than our usual Wednesday dinners on the Central Coast (it ain't cheap here). A bottle of wine (or 2) would have easily pushed the tab to well over $100, but that's par for the course for the restaurants we typically frequent. All in all, a good dinner served by friendly, happy folks. Just what we look for.
My wife and I tried Burton House on recommendation from a friend and we were delighted with our experience. It is great to have some more dining options in Nipomo (besides fast food). Bill was our waiter and he was very courteous and helpful through the entire meal, explaining the menu, favorite dishes, recommending how to order to suit our tastes. We shared a bunch of things to get a wide sample, with some take home for lunches. While waiting for our first course, Bill brought out a complimentary cheese plate (with dried fruits, strawberries and grapes, and toasted bread rounds) to enjoy while we waited for apps. Salmon cakes were excellent, as well as the roasted cauliflower salad. For entrees we got the nut crusted chicken with cilantro coconut sauce and braised short ribs. Meat entrees come with your choice of two sides, and soup or salad. Bill suggested we upgrade our salads for the roasted cauliflower (great choice) and we got garlic mash and veggies for the two plated sides. The flavors were excellent, well presented and enough to take home for seconds. All our extras were packaged by Bill and held for us in the kitchen. An added surprise the Executive Chef, Armida, came out to our table to ask us about our meal. It was delightful to hear her story, extensive background and training, and how she came to start Burton House with Bill and Anthony. Next surprise the provide a 10% discount to seniors and another 10% for military veterans! We were so pleased with the evening, we are going to bring our dinner group there next month. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other choices (steaks, lamb, mac and cheese)
We had dinner tonight for the first time at Burton House Grill in old town Nipomo. What a wonderful surprise! I had the chicken coated in crushed nuts. When I asked about a possible change in the sauce, the executive chef came out to confer on what I might prefer. I left it up to her and got a delicious mushroom sauce. The chicken was tender and crunchy under the sauce and the veggies were perfect. My husband had the mushroom risotto and it was equally delicious. The portions are more than generous and we will be having a yummy lunch tomorrow. The musician/singer really set a nice mood. Her name is Akusa and is so good, I'm wondering why I haven't heard her before. Her voice is very mellow and though she has probably played everything we heard hundreds of times before, she makes everything sound fresh. One can tell she really enjoys what she does even for a small but appreciative audience. I believe she's only there on Sunday evenings till the end of March. I thought the atmosphere was also very nice, tables not too close together. Sara, our waitress just started waiting tables at Burton House last week. She was sweet, very competent and actually knew how to correctly pour champagne which, trust me, doesn't happen as often as one might think. Bill, one of the owners, and in charge of operations, greeted us and showed us to our table. He is a Marine Corps veteran and Academy graduate, and is very welcoming and extremely personable and helpful. Willing to do whatever it takes to please his guests. Oh, and for those of us who live in Blacklake, Bill is also a Blacklake resident and golfer. If you haven't been there, give them a try. We need to keep them in our community.
