El Encinal Mexican Seafood - La Jolla

The interior is not, but can be a little loud / overwhelming for me (because of fear) so the outdoor seating area was perfect and very cozy! The food was fantastic. The quality was great and it was perfectly cooked. In particular, I will reconnect the squirting steak, octopus and scallops. My friend also loved the shells. The staff is very friendly and patient. Overall probably the best place I was in the last 3-5 years. It can feel a bit expensive at first, but I thought the price was very reasonable and the food was very worth it. Would be perfect for a casual and relaxed first date.

A delicious meal! So fresh and so tasteful. There is an incredible selection of choices. The El Pescador salad, containing smoked salmon, crabs and shrimps, was quite amazing!! And the other classic meal we tried was the sea bass with rice and vegetables, the fish was cooked for perfection!

We stopped by this place, right after we finished kayaking near the secret cave in La Jolla. We were hungry and craving fresh seafood!!! Service was good and fast, which was a big plus. We opted for half a dozen oysters, a local grilled sea bass plate (w/ brown rice veggies and a large cioppino to share. I loved their oysters and grilled sea bass. Sweet petite from the East coast were mild, briny, and not too meaty. The King tide from the west coast had a clean, crisp finish, and a plump springy texture. Both had clean after tastes, yum! The grilled local sea bass was fresh and had a delicate mild sweet flavor, they really grilled it to perfection. Unfortunately the cioppino was only decent, not only that but the large portion was quite small. Also, the amount of the seafood in it was too basic. I like that although it is a traditional fish market, it doesn't smell fishy at all. They also have a nice outdoor patio for you to enjoy the wine, SD breeze, and sunshine. Will be back for more oysters :

Amazing place for fresh seafood. They have a massive variety of options for dine-in and takeout. I imagine this is heaven for people that cook seafood at home. I had the El Pescador Salad and it was the most delicious/expensive salad I've ever had

Fish market doubles a fish restaurant. Here you will find inexpensive and fresh seafood. Although you don't find sophisticated seafood dishes here, grilled seafood is still amazing. I love to appreciate fresh seafood with minimal cooking, which are made to them anyway and this place provides great grilled seafood. Definitely a must try when you are in Mission Beach area.
