Bidra med feedbackI initially went to Tropix when they opened about a year ago. I ordered about $100 worth of food, which was very tasty. I ordered the chicken curry, it did have the wing and neck in it, I'm not really used to those pieces...however, it was very tasty. The lo mein, fried rice and jerk chicken were good too. The cook up rice was awesome. They had gourmet homemade pastries (coconut buns, pineapple tarts and cheese rolls). I was impressed, especially since west indianrestaurants are rare in jersey city. The owners were so nice and welcoming. I went back quite a few times and they didn't have most of the items I initially purchased. I wasn't sure if they no longer carried it or if it was soldout. About two weeks ago, I stopped by and they only had the chinese menu, which was about 6 items. I ordered the sweet chinese chicken lo mein and the pepper shrimp lo mein (which I assumed was very large shrimp sauteed in pepper over lomein). The person taking my order said the pepper shrimp comes w/chicken. I'm thinking how does that make any sense. When I got home, I noticed both dishes were pretty much the same. The shrimp lo mein was basically small shrimp withhot sauce tossed in the lo mein w/the chicken on top. The chicken was not fresh, it was clearly reheated. I was so annoyed and thought what a waste of $30. I would have spent more money, but they didn't have anything else to buy. Andthe owner/counter person was rude as heck this time. My advice to management: Be consistent w/your hours; have some menus printed; use social media on a daily basis w/your hours and the food that is available and stop reheating your food. The food is not cheap, I don't have an issue spending money, however I don't want burnt reheated food. Last but not least, try to have a positive attitude. I'm just trying to provide a realistic review for this establishment.
They had a limited menu on the day I ate there. I had the jerk chicken with Guyanese style Chinese fried rice. It was the best Guyanese food I found in Jersey City. West Indian food is limited in Jersey City. Staff was polite.
The food is horrible rice is cild and they served me turkey instead of chicken i knew cause im algeric to turkey they denied when i called the lady that works there very rude and un mannered they suck at what they do
I feel like this place is far under appreciated during a time when eating in general is extremely expensive . Tropix is nestled between 2 of my daily work sites in Lincoln Park and sits opposite of a lot of competition. I was a faithful Gusto Latino patron (still am for different needs) but Tropix has a lot of items that are not only affordable but also big in portion. Their sandwiches and breakfast items have saved me a lot of days when I was really tight on money and wouldn't be home for several hours to cook. The staff are always really friendly here, and usually look like they're having a good time working. They take Apple Pay Google Pay. I hope they stick around because they're a little gem here on the west side.
My favorite place to get Dominican food. The people are so warm and welcoming and the food is 10/10.
