Porto Santana - Alcacer Do Sal

We had a lovely lunch over here. This is a great place to taste some typical food of the Alentejo. The staff was very friendly. The place was packed with Portuguese people and that is always a good sign.

Excellent canja de amêijoa! The code fish with spinach was very good Extraordinary service, polite and attentive. Nice price.

On a road trip from Porto to the Algarve, I decided to stop in Alcácer do Sal for lunch and what a good decision that was. On a friend’s recommendation I stopped at Porto Santana at approx 14:30. The place was packed but the owner offered me a glass of moscatel whilst I awaited a table. I ordered the Porto Santana squid which was accompanied by shrimp, an olive oil and garlic sauce and the most beautifully roasted sweet potatoes. It’s not a lot of food compared to the rest of Portugal but it was soooo good. I had a small bottle of white wine which was also great. The service is spot on. They did not hesitate seating a person on their own (which I always appreciate) and were attentive throughout. I highly recommend!!!

Restaurateurs like this made all the difference. My wife and I show up without reservation on a fully booked place. But the got us a table in half an hour and even offered the martini drinks “because we had to wait”. After we pay the bill, presented us two small bottles of cold water “because the day is extremely hot”. Best part is the one gets the feeling they do this to everyone. Restaurateurs like this made us come back at the first opportunity. Do not forget the food, local slow food home-made kind, well done, superb taste, friendly service and professional. We’ll come back at the first opportunity.
