Pizza Express River House - York

The pizzas and food at Pizza Express are fantastic, as expected, and the charming old building adds to the overall dining experience.

Wow. Pizza Express is making a strong effort to cater to vegans. In addition to offering many vegan options on the main menu, their "Vegan Menu" is quite impressive. I was expecting a small menu with a few choices, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Vegan Menu is almost as extensive as the main menu. It features 21 vegan dishes with additional vegan toppings and a vegan dough stick. The menu includes appetizers, starters, salads, calzones, pizzas, and a low-calorie option. The dessert choices are more limited, but still diverse. The kids menu is also vegan-friendly, with the option to substitute vegan cheese. I tried the "Sloppy Vegan" on a Romana pizza crust, which was delicious and satisfying. The restaurant is located near the river, offering beautiful views. The dining rooms are warm, bright, airy, and decorative. One small criticism is that the cups and plates are cold, affecting the temperature of the drinks and food. Despite this, the overall experience at Pizza Express was enjoyable and I look forward to trying the "American Jack" next time.

It is truly impressive to see chain restaurants putting more effort into their vegan menus than just offering an "option". I was pleased to find a variety of vegan options at this restaurant, including about 8 different pizzas, as well as pasta, calzones, and salads. I tried the Legara pizza, which had very sweet caramelized onions and tasty spinach, but unfortunately, the crust was burnt and a bit greasy. I have found the quality at Pizza Express to be inconsistent, but I am thankful for the variety of vegan options available.

This is pizza express so you can’t really expect a deluxe dining experience. However I had a jackfruit vegan pizza that was pretty good. The guy who showed us to our table managed to do so without speaking to us and while having a telephone conversation. But other staff were friendly and helpful.
