Piccollilies Cafe, Walmgate, York

I cannot express my disappointment with Penny's restaurant. We originally intended to have breakfast, but ended up waiting 1hr 15 mins for our lunch order to be served. To make matters worse, the group after us was served before us without any apology. When our food finally arrived, we were given incorrect orders and the extra bacon we were promised never came. We were only in York for the day and did not have time to wait for mistakes to be rectified. The small kitchen size is not the customers' fault, but we were shocked to be charged over £60 for 4 breakfasts and 4 coffees. Unless you have plenty of time to spare, I would not recommend dining at Penny's.

My boyfriend chose this restaurant in advance of our trip to York because it was dog-friendly and had a vegetarian option for me, and we were both very impressed. The chef, Penny, and the servers were extremely friendly. I enjoyed a delicious homemade quinoa and bean burger with sweet potato fries and a generous portion of coleslaw. My boyfriend was very happy with his meat chili served with rice and nachos, as well as the good coffee. The restaurant is small, seating only about 14 people, but if you can get a table, you will not be disappointed. Bonus points for playing 6 Music as well!

I initially went to this restaurant for breakfast but ended up staying for lunch. Cas and Penny are the most welcoming individuals I have ever met in York. The restaurant is charming and the food is exceptional. I highly recommend going as soon as possible.

I came to Penny’s for Breakfast and I cannot fault anything at all, The service was impeccable and Cas the young man serving was wonderful he listened and offered so many options we were spoilt for choice The menu is a smorgasbord of delights all made fresh none of the warmed up microwave stuff you get in many places nowadays The food was cooked to perfection and the service impeccable, I will definitely visit again, not just for the amazing food but the customer service was second to none Penny’s is a gem we will most definitely visit again and again, I highly recommend you try this place Thankyou again for the best breakfast we have ever had and such wonderful service

Had a weekend in York and goggled English breakfast and this is the first that came up. Well what can I say! what an amazing find! we both had a full English breakfast but were asked how we would like our bacon and eggs cooked! The to top it off how we wanted our coffee as I am one of thse that doesn't like it strong this was amazing. I have never been asked that before and it was a real treat. The young man serving was sooooo helpful but not intrusive, he was very happy to answer questions re York and give any directions. I would not hesitate going back here when I'm in York and I can highly recommend it for breakfast
