Bidra med feedbackWhat a wonderful meal!!! The place has a LOT of steep rickety stairs, so if you have someone with mobility problems you better ask for a table below! I delight old buildings with a lot of character. We went for the £20 restaurant week meal. It was delicious. Nicely presented beautiful aromas. But the staff is a big plus. They were all so friendly helpful. They made it from a delicious meal in a beautiful whole experience. Thanks for feeling so welcome X
We found the chopping block looking for web pages for the best Sunday dinners in york and we were not disappointed! it is a beautiful old pub, quite central, but easy from the beaten stretch. we had amazing eating, the roast beef was the most tender thing I ever had with a massive yorkshire pudding and wonderful roasted vegetables. there are also other tasty options that were all pronounced to be excellent. we were also very well supervised by the team in the pub, who were very helpful and friendly. the interieur is really interesting with lots of history and details about the former insassen, ellerkers famous ropemaker. the pub belongs to the family that owns the local fine restaurant melton’s. I recommend a visit!
Extremely friendly staff (especially hatch), good choice of genuine ales and fantastic Sunday dinners. Partner said the best starter he'd ever had and is happy to come back on Wednesday to taste more of their big menu.
So good. had appetizer, head and dessert, would have wanted more if it wasn't all so perfectly filled.
Went there last night with a couple of friends and had a really lovely, relaxed evening. A good choice of Anglo French cuisine all cooked by a fantastic chef and a great choice of real ales. The music was Christmassy and not too loud. We didn't have a booking, but they were able to fit us in. I would say that a booking is recommended as it's quite small. Highly recommend this restaurant and well worth a visit.
