Antica Roma - Xanten

The above address is not correct any longer. The Antica Roma has moved into the town centre, Hühnerstraße 4, Xanten. It is wonderful to have them so much closer and in walking distance if you are close to the market and the heart of Xanten. The interior is rather elegant, a bit "cool", far from being kitschy. In the summer you can sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine. The food is excellent, very authentic, some combinations of ingrediants are unusual, but definitely tasty. Much more than pizzas and pasta to expect.

Pizza great, thin bottom, tasty crust. Gambas not cheap but very well prepared, nice veggies as side dish. Great location (adjacent to Nibelungenhof hotel) and good atmosphere (without noisy music), with hot breads given as appetiser. Attentive staff even though it was almost filled due to a large tour group. Not the cheapest Italian in town but probably one of the best.

Nice surroundings and very attentive service initially. An impressive wine list and extremely competent wine waiter. The mixed starter was very tasty but the main courses were both rather average. We had to wait a long time to settle-up. Overall, not bad, but could have been a lot better.

We've used Xanten as a stopover between the Netherlands and northern Germany.First of all this is a very charming little city.We chose Antica Roma based on some reviews and my gut feeling and this was a very pleasant surprise.Whatever we chose was very good and the service is very friendly and helpful.The dining room is moden and comfortable.Very much recommended when you are in Xanten.

This was a tip and sure a good one. The owners were fabulous and the food hard to choose from as it was all temptingly delicious. Ah if I only lived in the area. Next year will definitely be back while on vacation in Xanten, The food is beautiful and if you have picky kids the owner will gladly switch a few things. Gorgeous food and maybe because I was there during the quiet hours but had wonderful attention. I got to take my leftovers home and gosh did it ever still taste good on the second round. Highly recommend!!
