Tanskeys is a beautiful cafe, best location in West Kirby, yet the management is non existent. Who is managing this place? Apparently no one. We live very locally and visit very frequently. Very hit and miss service depending on server. If you arrive within one hour of closing you are made to feel most uncomfortable. We have now walked out of here on 3 occasions due to being ignored. Yesterday, we arrived at 2pm wanting lunch. It was unusually quiet, only 3 or 4 tables occupied. We were sitting on the terrace. Totally ignored for ten minutes. I went in to request menus and even had to queue at an empty counter, still ignored by 4 staff behind bar, to ask for menus. I thanked them saying’we’re sitting outside’. After a further 10 minutes, cafe was unusually quiet, still being ignored, we returned the menus and left. No response from the staff. The food is very good. The location is perfect. The service is appalling. It’s crying out for new management. So much potential. I am writing this review as someone who loves the place and comes more than once a week.
Haven’t been here for a few months and we felt it had changed. Device was slow and we had to ask for our order to be taken. Coffee was hot but not much flavour. Sausage sandwich was tasteless and red sauce watery! Poached eggs were ok.
Arrived at 16:10 to be greeted by a survey young lady who told us that as the shut at 17:00 we would be unable to have hot drinks! So, we ordered 2 cold drinks and 3 ice creams. Half an hour later when they hadn't arrived we left. The minute we left (before 17:00) they locked the metal gates. Sadly we will not be going back. There are many other places to get drinks in West Kirby. Shame though
Arrived 15:55 on Monday 29 Jan to an empty Tanskeys to be told closed . I pointed out the A-board outside showed opening hours from 9am until 5pm. Apparently the staff had forgotten to turn the board around to the closed side. On checking the Tanskey website, opening hours were confirmed as 09:00 to 17:00. I asked why I was turned away an hour before closing. Response, with apology, was bad weather . This is debatable. It was overcast and drizzling, but mild and with no wind. There were people doing the round of the Marine Lake and on the prom. I pointed out that Tanskeys needs a disclaimer on the website to warn people that, in the event of bad weather, they may close early. This would at least alert potential customers to the need to phone ahead on bad weather days. Of course, it would not cover Tanskeys were they ever to close early just because of a lack of customers. Thought about giving a one-star rating but remembered that on the (few) occasions I 'd visited before, all elements had been excellent; food, drink, service, welcome, ambience. This was especially so when Tanskeys hosted a small, informal, funeral wake a few months ago; Tanskeys provided a very pleasant end to a sad day.
