Bidra med feedbackI walked into this take. away at 7.31. i was 3rd in the queue so it took about 7 mins to place my order. So by 7.40 i had placed my order and paid. They close at 8pm so i had arrived plenty of time. Or so you would have thought. At 7.52 the owner turned the open sign off. At 7.59 the customer in front of me took her order away. and then at 8pm the owner said to me “i have run out of chips. I can peel another bag but it will take 12-15mins or i can give you your money back.” I had been in there 30 minutes. waiting for a bag of chips. i wasnt waiting another 15minutes. i took my money and vowed never to go back. If he had said when i placed my order it will take 20 mins or said sorry but i wont have any chips left so i wont take your order then that would have been fair enough. But no he waited until it was my turn to deliver his service message. I was furious, still am to be honest. i could have made my own in less time but i just wanted a quick filler. I wont go ever again. not because he ran out of his core product but because of the way he handled the customer service. For the info of the reader of this make sure you order before 7.15. Or preferably take your business somewhere else.
I visited this restaurant and discovered that they only accept cash payments, no cards or contactless options. I was surprised as there really isn't any excuse for this in today's age. We had to wait 20 minutes for a basic order, even though the food looked like it was already prepared and being kept warm. It was just an average fish and chip shop, with an unnecessarily long wait for a simple meal.
If you're seeking quantity over quality, I would suggest trying out Marigolds. We ordered a large fish, regular portion of chips, wholetail scampi, and a cod fishcake. The fish and chips were served together in one container. While the fish and batter were decent, they weren't hot enough, and the copious amount of chips were only lukewarm. The wholetail scampi was average, but one piece still had its 'poo' intact. The fishcake was a major letdown, as it had a faint fishy smell and an odd yellow 'crumb' that made it seem more like mashed potato. Overall, the experience was disappointing, considering that this used to be an excellent fish and chip shop.
We have been regular customers at Marigolds for a couple of years now and have always enjoyed our meals there. However, we were extremely disappointed with our recent visit. The fish we ordered did not seem fresh, and we suspect that it may not have been cod as advertised. The menu described it as "fish of the day," allowing the restaurant to use any type of fish. We believe it was likely a cheaper alternative such as pollock. Despite this, we were still charged the usual price. When it comes to British fish and chips, we expect cod. Unfortunately, Marigolds fell short of our expectations this time. We are unsure if we will be returning in the future.
Super kind staff, very personable, offered extra service and free chips when there was a misunderstanding! Will definitely be coming back.
