Bidra med feedbackVenturing in on a brisk autumn Sunday for lunch with my family I was excited at the prospect of a tasty wholesome roast platter to share. I sat for 20 minutes invisible to the front of house staff while they struggled to take our orders. We then had to order our drinks at the bar. Instructions were unclear. It would appear the do it yourself front of house service continued into the kitchen as the Partridge was served looking like it had been sat in the autumn sun for 30 minutes. After cutting it open and informing the waiter I was informed this was appropriate as it’s a gamey bird, and ok to eat. Although I appreciate it’s a gamy bird, we were served raw fleshy meat.. I love pink meat, but not raw.. I’ll leave a photo so you can make up your own minds. Not once did the staff check up to see if everything was ok. The young waiter then decided to take my partners plate away while my daughter and I were still eating.. The whole experience was poor. I’ve eaten here before (during covid) and the food/service was great. Not again.
We spent two nights at The White Horse this past weekend. The B&B accommodation was good, not amazing but not bad either. The location is fantastic, the staff were wonderful, and the food (2 dinners and 2 breakfasts) was absolutely fantastic. The menus were superb, the food was cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. They also had a unique and thoughtful selection of wines. The atmosphere was great overall. Highly recommended!
A group of 5 of us were staying local and headed here for lunch and wow it did not disappoint. I opted for the burger followed by peaches and cream for dessert. Everything tasted fantastic, was plated beautifully and the pub has a wonderful atmosphere
Stayed at the White Horse for just one night. Small country pub with a few rooms in another building at the back, hardly a Hotel. Staff were ok, well the only one we saw Was a young man who worked behind the bar in the evening showed us to our room and then served our breakfast in the morning. We stayed in room number four, very small with a very very small so called double bed. This should be only used for single travelers, not couples.
We arrived at the restaurant on a Saturday evening with high expectations after reading the reviews and awards. To our surprise, the pub was only half full, but we were seated at a large table and took a look at the menu. The menu consisted of a mix of pub staples like fish and chips and burgers, as well as more adventurous options like beetroot ravioli and partridge, along with a few starters like scotch egg and souffle. Unfortunately, the menu didn't quite meet our high expectations and leaned more towards safe and traditional dishes rather than something worthy of a 5-star reputation. Although the food we were served was well-prepared, with the fish in beer batter being a highlight, overall it didn't impress us. The atmosphere took a hit as the pub started to empty out around 7:30pm, leaving us with just loud music to drown out our conversations. The service was a bit sloppy, with servers walking around the table to serve guests instead of passing food across and offering bread halfway through the meal instead of before. Our first impressions weren't great either, as the entrance took us through an almost empty bar where the few locals were quietly drinking beer and watching the restaurant guests. Overall, the experience was not bad, but it didn't quite meet our expectations for a 5-star rating. We would rate it 3.5 stars instead of 3.
