Bidra med feedbackDuring our visit to the Warrandyte area to see a friend, we stopped by Cyrus Greek Restaurant to consider it for a future meal. The charming two-story Greek home had a traditional feel, although it could use a little sprucing up. Opting for Greek coffee and cake instead of a full lunch, we savored a delightful chocolate and cheese cake with our drinks. I enjoyed a Chai tea as well. The service was excellent, with the owner warmly greeting us and discussing potential dinner options for our next visit. Cyrus Greek Restaurant also offers event hosting for functions and family/friend gatherings.
I have visited this now and still curious. There were only three tables but the food still took a while to be served. The host (George? was very pleasant and amicable but alas the waitress knew nothing about the food she was serving. She had not tasted any of it I dont think. I ordered Persian casserole but it was far more of a greek style and flooded with oil. Nothing wrong with the dish but nothing really outstanding. Rice was mediocre and something on the rice plate called Tachin was stodgy. The salade shirazi was far too sour for my liking. Not an expensive place and will probably go back to try something else perhaps.
On Friday night we thought we'd give the new Persian Greek restaurant in Warrandyte a try. It was quite a surreal experience driving down the long driveway and seeing a house converted into a restaurant. We were greeted by the owner who is a very welcoming and friendly man and given a table in a 3 4 full restaurant. The ambiance was very good, but the room(quite large) is a little cold. The entrees were very tasty, a traditional Persian quiche and an tomato eggplant dip. The main's (skewered mince lamb and the casserole of the day, meat and apple with rice) were a bit stodgy and we should have ordered a side salad to complement. I'd like to go back again and try other selections before I make an ultimate judgement on Cyrus.
I made a reservation for my husband's birthday at this restaurant on a Saturday lunchtime. The house had a nice interior and a cozy atmosphere with a lovely fire burning. However, the actual experience on the night was disappointing. There was a DJ playing loud rap music, the fire went out, and the service was poor despite the restaurant being quiet. We had to repeatedly ask for water and wait a long time between courses. After finishing our entrees, we were not asked if we wanted dessert and ultimately left feeling unsatisfied. Other diners also complained about the noise from the disco and felt the ambiance could have been improved with softer music. The food was presented well and the salad was enjoyable, but overall, it was a disappointing experience considering the potential the venue had for special occasions.
George the owner was a lovely man, but this did not make up for the disappointing dinner experience. The dining area was chilly, with the fire hardly going. Our main meal took a long time to be served, with our vegetables arriving once we had nearly finished our dry over cooked mains (chicken skewers on the bone lamb cutlets) The only really good thing we ate was the hot bell peppers on the entree platter, which would have come from a jar. George explained that the flavours cooking methods were traditional therefore probably not to our liking..... did give us complimentary desserts, (cold rice pudding) which is something we would not order or eat unfortunately. If you are after traditional style cooking, you may enjoy it. We unfortunately did not.
