I too was disappointed. The sheeps tails sounded better than it tasted. A word of advice about serving items with a high fat content..it must be served hot and you should be able to taste the elements that accompany the dish. This was cold and unpleasant. The first time I visited the food was excellent… yesterday Sunday lunch we made a family trip to the Taphuis and had very disappointing food. I’m not sure if there was a different chef or perhaps he doesn’t work on a Sunday… The vegan tacos were tasteless The charcoal buns as well as the normal burger buns were very stale, my kingklip arrived glassy as they are sometimes after freezing… and when my replacement hake arrived it was mushy and raw in the middle. Food was amazing — we each ordered something different — a steak, smoked pork belly and the patagonia squid and smoked snoek mousse. Food was of a high quality, delicious and the presentation was beautiful! Well stocked bar with everything you can think of, and a lovely roaring fire place. Service was very good, until right at the end when our waiter (Gaylord) decided to have a chat with an American tourist about their sommelier course they were both doing instead of attending to our payment. Best restaurant experience I have ever had. My wife and I went for our anniversary. They made us feel special from the get go! Service was great. The food was exceptional. The portions was also more than enough. My wife and I were rolling out of the restaurant. Hats off to the staff and chef!

I must be honest I was disappointed. The service is fantastic and it’s a great venue, warm and cosy. However I found the portions were tiny and the dessert was not great. The wine that is completely overpriced. There is no way that a bottle of Zinfandel could ever cost R950!!! The dessert was dry and flavorless, not worth the calories. I really enjoyed my beet falafel pasta but I felt it was a tiny portion. Not value for money.
