Bidra med feedbackStopped at Mickey's one morning for breakfast with my foodie buddy before our meeting. The location we were going was providing breakfast but with Mickey's so close we opted for the better breakfast. I'd been to Mickeys a few times over the years but the last time was at least 10 years ago. Wow, its been that long. I've always ordered breakfast and always ordered the same thing. I keep saying that I should try lunch or dinner sometime but I do enjoy their breakfast and haven't got up the courage to dry something different yet. I always get their Denver omelette with O'brien Potatoes. The omelette's at Mickey's are huge. Easily enough for a couple of meals. They are also fluffy and light. I've had a lot of omelettes in my day and the omelette here at Mickey's is one of the biggest and fluffiest. I also love their O'brien potatoes with real potatoes. This is all served with some toast. This is big breakfast. Mickey's is definitely a St Paul institution. Nothing like eating in a diner with all that history. They are open 24 hours not I just need to try lunch or dinner sometime. But I do enjoy that breakfast.

4-Stars for this Minnesota-tourist! So I LOVE retro, nostalgic things... I've seen Mickey's on a few Food Network shows the Mighty Ducks movies so stopping by was a must for my visit to St. Paul! It was about a 20 minute drive from Downtown Minneapolis. It has its own small parking lot and it across the street from both the Minnesota Children's Museum and Juvenile Hall (no, I'm not joking! ! So going in I think you have to be prepared for the following: 1 You might have a parking problem if that small lot is full 2 The diner is TINY inside- there's the counter with about 15-20 stools and about 4 small tables! Like one reviewer had mentioned before me, if you have a wheelchair or a large party this Mickey's location probably won't work for you. 3 Unless you get super luck and come at an off-time, you'll probably have a wait. 4 Don't come expecting amazing, delicious food- you're here for the ambiance, nostalgia, experience! That said, I had a great time here! I grabbed a stool at the counter and had fun reading about Mickey's history in the menu. Service is sassy it's fun to people watch! I ended up ordering a bowl of mulligan stew an Arnold Palmer. The most amazing meal I've ever had? Of course not! But it was a great bowl of classic American diner fare on a chilly afternoon! So nostalgic- it was like eating mom's home cooking. Everyone else seemed to be ordering breakfast or burgers. The best part of this whole meal was getting to step back in time and experience this little retro diner! You definitely don't run into many places like this anymore this one was truly a gem for anyone who appreciates history/depression-era shtick! There are a few souvenirs you can take home with you- super heavy $7 coffee mugs or postcards. SO glad I took the time to visit~ would definitely come back if I'm ever in Minnesota again!
Food: This place is FAMOUS for its classic, delicious diner food. However when I finally tried this place a few weeks ago, I was slightly disappointed. I ordered the steak (medium) eggs and the meat game out well done and pretty tough. My boyfriend got the chili omelette which was pretty flavorless. He's been here plenty times with raging success, so it's possible we were here on an off day, although it was Sunday. Venue: For the rare few who don't know already, it's a first come first serve diner car that only accepts cash. There's a small parking lot too.
N O S T A L G I A L I V E S H E R E Wow, hasn't changed since the last time I was here in 1967. True story. But I didn't dine and dash this time : Teenagers, jeez! The menu proudly boasts that the eggs are prepared in BUTTER!! So my scrambled eggs were wonderful, and the buttermilk pancakes were so eggy they were yellow. The bacon was cooked to order, and I can't complain, decent quality bacon. The individual tabletop jukeboxes had all old songs on them, not sure if they work. The booths and pretty much everything else were well worn, but that fact only added to the ambience. Our blonde waitress was unflappable no matter what anyone sent her way. There seemed to be a couple cooks, and a busboy. This is a well oiled (buttered working machine. This was an experience, not a gastronomical delight. Expect the people watching to be the BEST part. Sit back, enjoy the meal, savor all the nuances, and check this place off your list. TOO SCARED TO USE THE RESTROOM
