The Boardwalk - Waveney

An extremely delicious meal, cooked to perfection and served by extremely attentive waiting staff.

I don’t know if it’s because this cafe restaurant is situated on the pier, which leads me to think that it’s a low quality touristy place, but I keep being surprised by the quality of the food. I’ve now been here a few times in the last three or four years, always with family, and never been disappointed. On this occasion, we were a group of three adults and two children and, again, we all had an excellent meal. I had chicken caesar salad which was very tasty. The portion size was large with a very generous serving of warm chicken breast. The other two adults had homemade tomato soup with some fresh granary bread which, they said, was delicious. The children’s meals were a pasta dish that was enormous, and defeated my ten year old grandson, and a small fish and chips that my eight year old granddaughter enjoyed but couldn’t finish either! Food and service were spot on and there’s clean loos too! Overall, great value for money. No doubt we’ll return in another year when I’ll again be saying how surprised I am by the quality of the food!

We chose to dine at this restaurant on Saturday the 21st because they offered Gluten Free fish and chips. From the moment we entered, the staff were attentive and helpful. When I mentioned my gluten-free dietary needs, they went above and beyond to accommodate me, even offering gluten-free vinegar which I have never been offered anywhere else. It was quiet at 5pm due to the end of storm Babet, so we had the option to choose where to sit. It was a wonderful experience to enjoy gluten-free food with a view of the sea. Both my husband and I enjoyed our non-gluten-free fish and chips, and the crushed peas were delicious. I have only ever been offered regular or mushy peas elsewhere. The presentation of the food was also impressive. Despite seeing a few negative reviews, we could not find fault with our meal or experience. The restaurant could use some updating with a new coat of paint, but I believe this may be a project for the winter months after a busy summer season. Overall, I was very pleased with our visit. Thank you to the staff, I cannot recall individual names, but keep up the great work!

The restaurant was very busy as it was half term so it took a while for our order to arrive, my young son was getting fed up. One dish was slightly incorrect but was immediately corrected. The restaurant staff were very polite and helpful. However, the Fish Finger Sandwich was disappointing. Two very tiny pieces of fish cooked in batter that was hard and oily, difficult the eat. I would have sent it back but the thought of waiting longer put me off. Not sure I would go back.
