Bidra med feedbackOver priced for the small portions. I didn’t like how the food was packaged. The paper trays used to separate the food got wet and began to tear and appeared in my yams. Everything else was pretty good. I ordered smothered pork chop but I’m not sure if that was a smothered pork chop or what. The macaroni was not traditional it tasted like it had vanilla and cinnamon in it. It’s a ok soul food restaurant for Waterbury. I support black own business
My go-to when I'm in Waterbury for lunch! It came highly recommended and it's no surprise why. Their food is always fresh and obvious a whole lot of heart was put into the creation of it. It's fantastic! I had the pulled pork, cabbage and corn pudding with a piece of dense, buttery pound cake for the road. Looking to try breakfast there soon!
I got a variety of things because this was my first time there. I got Large veggies plate with Mac and cheese, yams, and black eye peas and rice, although the latter is sold separately I was given it as one, counting as one of my double portions this of course bumped up this review since the customer service only got better. The plate was priced under 11$. I also got a side of meat, curry chicken under 5$ I got a peach cobbler and a very big piece of lemon pound cake each costing under 5$. So as you can tell the prices are great. Now when I walked in the food didn't look like I grow up so I was scared and to top it off the meat choices wasn't soul to me since there was nothing fried but then I ate the food oh my the veggie plate was great the meat I could do without and the desserts where to sweet for me. I was also able to taste the sweet potato pie and the banana pudding also to sweet but with that said this place gets an A+ for food and B+ for desserts.
Nothing fancy about this place, just good old-fashioned home cooked southern food like your Momma used to make! My wife had the bbq ribs with real potato salad, blackeyed peas and of course cornbread. I had fried chicken with blackeyed peas, collards and of course the cornbread. A nice peach cobbler for dessert and we were stuffed. Good sized portions, VERY reasonable prices. Staff is friendly and helpful. Not our first time there and definitely not our last. GO THERE!
Finally, a decent soul food restaurant in Wtby! I've ordered here about five or six times and each time the food has been extremely delicious, cooked to perfection, and worth the trip. The staff is just an added bonus, always friedly and welcoming. You will be greeted with that down south hospitality . I love the Mac cheese, but that corn pudding honey....!!!
