Bidra med feedbackSuper charming place with friendly staff. The trout and duck breast were cooked perfectly also check out the wine cellar!
The 'wheel has always been on my bucket list so I was stoked to finally eat here. The restaurant couldn 't be any more gorgeous; I don 't understand folks who are giving 4 stars or less for ambience. Temperature wise though it was chilly I about froze my knickerbockers off. Afterwards I had to crank the heat in my motel room to thaw out! Note to self: come back in the summer, haha.Anyhoo, the hostess/ manager was very friendly as was my server. I ordered a mocktail of mango nectar and ginger beer which was so good I could have sucked down about 3 more in no time. Big points for having mocktails for us non boozehounds! They were serving drinks with these cute bamboo straws never seen them before. The server also brought out some delicious warm focaccia and house citrus butter.I started with the duck confit sliders. Loved the diced apple and toasted bread but it would have been better if the duck weren 't served chilled. Beautiful presentation though. Next I ordered the poached egg and asparagus salad, and oh my goodness this was definitely my favorite thing. The egg was perfectly poached (photo , the cured salmon was out of this world, and the best part was the truffle vinaigrette! After inquiring I found out that you can buy a bottle if you let the chef know in advance. For the main course I had the 10oz Rib Filet mid rare with béarnaise, horseradish mash and roasted carrots. The steak was cooked to perfection but not salted heavily enough for my taste. It was topped with (fried scallions? which added some nice flavor. I could have licked my plate of the béarnaise yum! The carrots were tasty sweet, salty and just tender enough. I was super unimpressed with the mash; I got little to no horseradish and it was a bit thin and sweet. All in all a good experience. This is the perfect restaurant for a special occasion like an anniversary. Be ready to drop some money, but order anything with that truffle vinaigrette and it will be worth it.
We were lucky to enjoy an evening at Waterwheel. The bar and dining room were cozy and intimate. We had a beautiful bottle of wine and the best pork chop known to man. Service was lovely.
Quite a variety of menu choices, all of which appeared to be unique in taste and presentation. The 4 of us all ordered different items and were very happy with our choices. I had the Bolognese which was superb. The rustic old mill gives you a nice ambience to enjoy each other's company and conversation. If in the Hot Springs/Warm Springs area, it's well worth the effort to enjoy the experience
I was pleasantly surprised after dining at the Homestead Resort, which is a culinary tour de force, that my wife and I would so thoroughly enjoy the delightful offerings of the Waterwheel.A staff member of the Homestead suggested if we were determined to leave the resort for a meal, that without question, we should make a reservation at the Waterwheel Restaurant. My wife ordered the “deckle rib eye,” which I had never heard of but was about to claim as my new favorite cut of steak. It consists of the outer band of heavily marbled meat that surrounds the inner core of a full rib eye steak. The small strips of perfectly cooked and seasoned steak was a symphony of tender marbled goodness.I ordered a pork chop over a bed of firm cauliflower with the most amazing cream, shallot and sherry sauce. Had I been paying closer attention to the menu, I might not have ordered the pork chop because I don’t care for cauliflower. For the first time, I loved it.The chef visited our table and gave me the basic ingredients for the sauce which will certainly become a family favorite. Thank you sir.Another surprise was the wine cellar. Rather than a pretentious and lengthy list that waitstaff often struggle to remember, customers are invited to visit the cellar and choose their own bottles which are clearly priced. The staff was friendly and attentive. The entire experience was spot-on. Very well done.
