Cervejaria Cacimbo - Viseu

We were staying at the Pousada very close by so seemed worth checking this out. Since it's a cevejaria I was hoping it would serve some Portuguese craft beer eg Letra, Sovina. Unfortunately all the beer was made by Sagres (other than Heiniken not very crafty) and the food quite underwhelming. My steak with sheep's cheese sauce was ok buy underwhelming and my wife's octopus rice was watery as if it had been watered down to serve (she would probably give a lower score). The place was fine but there's better to be had in Viseu for less money.

It's hard to find where to have lunch in Viseu on a Sunday, and we found Cacimbo through TA. There are 2 restaurants explored by the same owner and with similar names Cacimbo restaurant and Cacimbo Cervejaria, so if you want to make a reservation you need to know which are you heading to. Food is ok, as well as the place and the prices. So here's an ok review as well.

We have eaten here many times during four previous visits to Viseu, and naturally returned during our recent stay in the city. On this stay, we dined here twice, and both had the same meal on the two occasions. The first meal was pork loin in beer and cream sauce. The meat was only lukewarm served on a cold plate, and the sauce was tasteless. On the second night, we had cod fish loin which should virtually be free of bone, and costs more than ordinary cod fish which is never filleted. Both our portions of fish contained many bones. The cheese topping did not have the hard outside rind removed, which is disgraceful, and the accompanying onions were slimy. We were extremely disappointed with both meals, especially after previously enjoying the food here.

It's quite difficult for me to be positive on this review. However I will be as professional as I can. So first of all, never arrive before 7:30PM because it seems as if in Portugal the opening time says 7 they actually mean 7:30 or even later... Then of course because you arrive at 7PM the waiters are not ready to serve you, because they are still preparing the tables, so the best you can do in a such situation is to look at the aquarium look outside and do some noise, then actually the notice you : We orderd at about 7:15/18pm so 13 to 15minutes after we arrived (what could be perfectly fine in a crowded restaurant with only 1 waiter for 100 guests. But there where at least 10 waiters but 0 clients... They just wheren't expecting anyone so soon, so they where not ready. However after we started to eat those small apetizers they give you here around in Portugal (approximatelly 30 minutes after we ordered I started to be pissed off.... So as we had starters and also food for our children and it was already 5 past 8 PM i asked for our food. When they told me: Oh sorry, well yes there was a Problem, the kitchen did not recieve the order. So ehhmm, ok, I waited for 1 hour, and they figure out after 1 hour that the kitchen did not get the order? Nice! So what did I do? I canceled the order of my wife and I and directed them to bring the childrens plates out. What actually then happened within 15minutes. We theb decided to go! And we had to pay of course for everything, no coffe as an excuse or at least saying oh sorry sir, please come back tomorrow and there is a wine on us or something. You really feel that the service at this place has no clue about how to act professional. So what can I say and can I recomend this place? If you do not expect quality service as I know them from Hitlon, Hyatt, Marriod and 1 to 3 star michelin restaurants (well that was now a little high ok let's say if you do not expect service as it should be, a restaurant to be open and ready at the time they have on the homepage, door and tripadvisor, if you expect to wait for 1 hour then this is your place! You will not be disapointed... Wait, that was ackward I somehow missspelled things!? Ok maybe I'm beeing sarcastic or funny, but this is how I deal with this catastrophic night we had, and by the way I'm still hungry. But let's be nice too. The food, when it makes the decision to arrive at your table, is delicious and the price is portugal standard low. So you can get good food for not so much money. I expext more, and I hope to find it in the near future. Overwiev: Food 4/5 Service 1/5 Ambience 3/5 Cleaness 4/5 Location 3/5 Price 3/5 Total 18/30 So would I reconsider coming back? Yes Would I suggest it to others? Even if I gave only 2* I would say yes Hope that they start to listen to some comments, because the servive was critizesed not for the first time...

It was a great dinner, strongly recommend costeletão à Fiorentina and Costeletão Tomawak (for group meals! i aslo recommend the mushroom risotto and the camarões à guilho
