Gasthaus Lowen - Villingen-Schwenningen

Good local food restaurant and well located in the old part of the city. The service was excelente, even if we were a large group.

Just back from a lovely pasta lunch. The decor is modern and very stylish and clean. The menu is tiny but perfect. The service was efficient and somewhat formal. The food is very well presented and tasty. It is hard to find fault except the toilets were freezing! I will return.

I visited Villingen for a week earlier this month, and after eating at Lowen, we returned 3 further times. My meat-eating companions loved the modern bistro feel of the place (bench seating, sedately lit, welcoming) and the limited but excellent menu.On each of the 3 visits, I was offered two vegetarian options - I tried 3 different meals over the visits and two of them were great quality (the veggie lasagne was nice, but the only veg. present was cauliflower, a strange one to find in a lasagne, but I'm told a very traditional veg. for the area itself).The burger was homemade and very very good, the fries homemade also (not frozen). fair prices and very friendly staff.I loved it.

As an Amuse Bouche we were served bread and olive oil with herb salt. We had Vittello Tonnato for a starter which was in fact half Veal and half beef - we were asked if that was OK and we said sure. It was served with fried capers. Very tasty. We then had seared tuna on a bed of a bean salad. The food was excellent and served well. Would heartily recommend this restaurant !
