Bidra med feedbackIt would be very easy as a non native to pass this place by; it’s just off the main road and has a plain facade. However, this hides some of the best beef that I have had in a while. There is no menu as such but via Google and French (the only common language where we had much fluency : we worked out that you can have thin beef from the charcoal grill or thick beef from the charcoal grill. We went for the thick beef and were advised that one portion would be enough for two they weren’t kidding! We had a sharing board of chorizo and local cheese with bread and olives to start, which were all very good. The main event was probably 6 700g of beef from the local mountain cattle, served with thin fries cooked in olive oil and a salad where you could taste all the ingredients. The beef was superb really tender and beautifully cooked. As well as the food, we had two beers and a very pleasant bottle of local white. All this cost just €36, a total bargain. We will be visiting again when we are next in the area.
This small family run bar/café/restaurant is just off the road, near the entrance to the Casa de Levada Agricola. In late July, we visited twice on both visits, we inadvertently interrupted the family eating their own meals, but they unhesitatingly made us very welcome and served us with a smile. The daughter of the household speaks some English and interprets for her mother who does the cooking they offer a hot 'dish of the day '. The first time, we popped in for a (very) late snack and the mother prepared ham and cheese baguettes for us plenty of filling and fresh bread. The second time, in the evening, the mother prepared the same veal, chips and salad as the family were eating themselves. This bar/café is nothing fancy it 's typical of many seen throughout Portugal, but it is clearly popular with locals who were popping in throughout our visits and we were impressed with the family 's commitment to service.
