Bidra med feedbackMan… I just heard they’re shutting down forever and it breaks my heart to hear this. My parents came sometime in ‘92 and since then, they’ve been coming here until I was brought into this world. I was introduced to Chinese cuisine by going to Hoy’s on a very frequent basis, if not, by takeout. Hoy’s has been a traditional staple name in my family household for over 20 years and there is one person who has always attended us since I was little and had the privilege of seeing me grow up. Thank you Eva for being the best waitress ever, we don’t even have to tell you our order, you’ve known us for so many years, it’s automatic to you. Thank you Hoy’s for the many years of Wonton Soup, Beef Broccoli, Shrimp fried rice, Chow Mein and tea thank you for the many memories you housed, from us eating at 11pm watching Just for Laughs on your small TVs found in each booth to eating there with fellow brothers and sisters after a lovely Sunday service from church. You hold a very special place in my heart and as much as it’s hard to take that you’ll no longer exist, the memories and tastes of your food will always stay with me. Godspeed Hoy’s. The literal best icon for East Van ?
The Missus and I, along with the boys have used Hoy's for our Canto food fix many times. The service is quick and the food is above average with great value for your dollar. The claypot rice is delicious. I recalled visiting this restaurant when it was called the Bill Kee Wonton Restaurant many moons ago.Unfortunately, I have learned that Hoy's will be closing at the end of July, 2023. Hopefully they can find another location to fill in the Canto restaurant void.
We ordered takeout here at 5:30pm on a Sunday. It was really good. We especially enjoyed the gailan with sliced beef. There was a small parking lot and a small dining room. Not fancy, but very clean and bright. It was not super busy when we were there, but we were there early in the evening. Very good value for money.
Another one of my favourite restaurant along Kingsway. One of their specialties is claypot rice (it does take awhile to cook). However the wait is worth it!They are open quite late, yes, you can get dinner at 10pm!I like their crispy noodles, claypot rice dishes my son likes their curry brisket. Food is priced very reasonable.Go check them out.Parking spot is decent, you can do street parking. Restaurant is clean tidy.
Open late and has all the Canto da laang classics. The deep fried silver fish here was scrumptious and one of the best I’ve had. The silverfish were so crispy like chips and it went so good with their plain congee. The portions were awesome. The honey garlic spareribs were just average as the pork meat was kinda dry and it lacked crisp on the outside. The deep fried pork intestines weren’t as juicy as they could have been. The peas shoots were tender and great in portion but a little on the oily side. Overall, still great food and very satisfying for late night eats but their deep fried silverfish is truly a gem!
