Rifugio Duca Degli Abruzzi Orionde

We hiked to this Rifugio and reached it after about 3 hours. The view is fabulous, both of the Matterhorn and the lovely valley in which Cervinia is situated. This is when food and drinks taste best. Quick service, friendly staff and excellent food and drinks in true mountain environment. What could go wrong?

We took the cable car from Cervinia to the first station Plan Maison, after that we followed path 14/65 right to Rifugio. It was a rather strenuous trip and hiking sticks are strongly recommended. After a short break with some food and drink and admiration of Matterhorn, we followed path 65 to Perrères path 107 down. Although most of the stretch is down, it is quite demanding and above all the last bit on path 107. Total with breaks the whole trip took about 8 hours but it was worth every step and especially do not miss the little alpine lake on the right after about 45 min after Rifugio where you can photo Matterhorn's mirror image.

After a streneous hike up to mountain we arrived at the rifugio. Lunch with excellent views. They had much variety in the card what surprised me because of the location (although it can be reached by road). We had a good and tasty lunch and where happy with the staff. On my way to the bathrooms I got also an impression by their rooms, looked really comfortable for an rifugio.

I've been in the Cervina valley many times and been up to the base of Cervino every time and stopped here for food and the odd night's sleep. The place is excellent! The food is brilliant, the rooms are newly refurbished and very comfortable and the guardians are so friendly and caring. Say hi to Sara if you do swing by.
