Bidra med feedbackRight on the water, with delicious crabs and other seafood pleasantries. Sandgates has always been my family’s favorite summer spot, especially so we can enjoy some crabs! We keep coming back year after year. An old building with that classic Southern Maryland charm.
Great people, great crabs, great sides, KENO, fun, Bar or Tables. Perfect place to chill, drink, eat, chat and enjoy the water view. By boat or call! Goto Weekend Spot!
This was my first time eating in and the service was every but of GREAT! My server was kind and she even warned me about dishes that weren't favored. Even my food arrived it was hot, great portions and tastes better then I expected. I'd DEFINITELY recommend this to anyone wanting a waterfront experience to eat great tasting food. The ONLY gripe is at all would be that an order of fries to eat with crabs isn't a larger enough portion but, no one goes to eat just for fries so I'm not complaining?. I'd give Sandgates a 8. out of 10
Crabs were light but good. My wife's appetizer and crab cake dinner order got lost and she waited over an hour for her food and wasn't in the mood to eat by the time it arrived. The waitress didn't offer anything as compensation.
I used to look on this place with a particular fondness. Great food with a fantastic water-filled view. Well, my recent experience was a bit sub-par to say the least. We got crab dip, crab balls, and stuffed shrimp for our appetizer. And everything seemed…off. Particularly, the crab dip was a highlight in all the wrong ways. It had a French-onion-y taste to it that shouldn’t quite be in a crab-oriented dip. And the crab itself was minimal. It was mostly an oniony mess with the occasional piece of crab meat which was just unfortunate. And the crab “stuffed” shrimp is a slight exaggeration. It was just a crab ball with a piece of shrimp shoved in. Not my ideal look for a piece of shrimp “stuffed” with crab meat. The drinks were off too. Even my nostalgia-filled perspective couldn’t put down the very sub-par food. The service was okay, I suppose. Our food came out in weird intervals. Somebody got their whole meal before others got a single item! Like, what? Additionally, and this is a personal gripe, the lack of outdoor seating for a place called SANDGATES with a whole dedicated place for such a thing is just unfortunate. With really sub-par food, lack-luster staff, and very questionable restaurant choices on their part, I’d say a three star rating is a bit generous, but I would say it suffices. Really unfortunate how downhill this place has gone, I’d really like to see it get back up and allow a fighting chance with phenomenal seafood and pub choices, but only time will tell.
