Le Bateleur - Vaison-la-Romaine

We have been eating at this restaurant for many years and our last visit was very enjoyable. How the staff look after so many guests so well remains a mystery but they do the job superbly. The Carte de Vin gives a wonderful choice of wines and the burgundy that we ordered was truly delicious. Our meal was good though the choice was limited. This remains a problem with restaurants that do not regularly offer different menus.

We rang just before going into Vaison-la-Romaine and were told they could give us a table on the terrace. The terrace is across the road from the restaurant, quite small. They offer a menu selection with either 2 or 3 courses. We had the 3 course choice, which is 45 euros per person They bring some nibbles to go with the aperitif and an amuse bouche, which was nice. We both enjoyed our fish main course. The food is good, mid price.

We had never tried this restaurant even if we live locally and what an excellent find. Nice comfortable surroundings and quite simple. The pork starter was a pleasure to eat as it was absolutely fabulous and full of the type of flavours that you can only hope for. Certainly not everyday that you get to have such a great experience. We then had different mains, one was beef and the other was fish and both were excellent. Especially the beef as again the flavours from the meat, the sauce and the vegetables were generous, exciting and just very good. This is is really what you expect when ordering good food. Finally the desserts were again absolutely fabulous and you could tell that we were being treated by someone that not only knew what they were doing but also, I imagine, enjoys creating great food. Only small hiccup was the service which was done by a very nice lady but it was not up to the standard of the food. A little effort here in respect to presenting the food would go a long way. All in all a very positive experience and yes, we will be returning.

Great dinner in Vaisson La Romaine. The entree, Calamari, Poulpe de Roche, was fantastic. For the mains, try the lamb or the “poisson sausage de carmargue”. Both were excellent. Service was good (for France).

Great service and friendly staff , amazing food, lovely atmosphere ! I Would recommend and go again whenever in Vaison !
