I recall the day she passed away, and I told everyone in the hospital that I was not leaving her side. Even when our daughter Heather had to leave, I stayed with Patrice until she grew cold and I knew she was gone. It was a difficult moment, but I finally had to let her go. After leaving the hospital in a daze, I found myself at Mickey's unable to speak. The regulars sensed that something was wrong, and gave me space as I sat quietly with a drink. As I stared out the front door at the sky, a sudden and intense hailstorm began. I turned to the bartender and said that Patrice had just passed away, and this was the tears of heaven falling for her. The patrons were shocked and saddened, as everyone who knew her loved her dearly. It has been 15 years since her passing, and I still grieve for her every day. The memory of her brings tears to my eyes every time. Today, as I sat at Mickey's, the emotions overwhelmed me as they welcomed me back and remembered the day of the hailstorm. I cried uncontrollably, trying to release some of the pain that still lingers. It's moments like these that help me cope with the loss of my dear Patrice.
The atmosphere at this restaurant is fantastic, reminiscent of Cheers where everybody knows your name. Ryan is the best and the place feels safe. It exudes the three Cs - cool, calm, and collected.
