Bidra med feedbackServer was great. This type of sushi is more like a park and run. Fish taste good, had better. Everything else was good. Not great but good . Would I go back? Probly not.Food: 3/5
An impromptu date night with the Mrs and our usual sushi spot (a 3.5-4/5 at best) being booked (AYCE so people stay longer) a quick search for spots nearby found Sushi Bear. Good ratings, pictures of what my wife described as a “cute” inside and the name (wife has always called me Bear, so Sushi Bear was a sign) we decided to give it a shot. After being seated I can attest that the inside was indeed “cute” we ordered a few items off the menu and absolutely everything was perfection. Miso soup was great and plentiful. The garlic soy sauce edamame was like nothing we’ve had before even though we always try to order the garlic style edamame at sushi spots. Addicting. We got a few items but the main highlights start with the bear style carpaccio (fresh and delicious, wife usually will only eat salmon but ventured to try the other 3 types of fish presented and liked them). And then the star of the evening was the Sunrise Roll. We always try to find a type of roll that’s like a California roll with salmon and lemon slices on top. Some places have variations, others we need to ask nicely, but the sunrise roll was that to perfection. When it showed up without visible lemon slices I asked about it and was told they were under the salmon rather than the usual over we’d seen at other places. This simple change transformed the way this roll is enjoyed as you get the hint of lemon slice rather than hit with that first. Everything else was wonderful, even the ginger tasted fresh, and the service was great. Can’t wait to come back.
The people were nice and the plating was decent! But the food was rather mediocre. Service was avg but I was a busy time. 3.5/5
Been coming here for 5+ years and even though I had them a few days ago, I would eat there twice today and not even be mad about it.I love Sushi Bear. Whenever I can't decide where to eat, my boyfriend knows he can just pick up Sushi Bear.
Sushi Bear is another of the many Tustin gems I managed to overlook. Based on the numerous positive Yelp reviews, I decided to give it a whirl for a mid-week lunch. I'm glad I did. The menu is extensive with something to please just about everyone. I chose the Number Four Sushi Bear Combo consisting of six pieces of Sashimi, ten pieces of chef's choice Nigiri Sushi, a roll, salad, and Miso soup. It wasn't cheap, and it was easily enough for two, but I thought why not? You only live once, right? I somehow managed to polish off all of it save for about four pieces of the roll when I was thoroughly stuffed and had to tap out. I washed it all down with a large Sapporo as one does. Every bit of it was very good. Every bit of it tasted fresh and well prepared. The service was great. I was seated immediately, and my server whose name I wish I could remember delivered the meal perfectly. Sushi Bear just might be the best Sushi place in Tustin. I haven't tried all of the other places in town yet, but I strongly suspect Sushi Bear is the best of the bunch. So why not five stars? It's a fair question I will answer thusly: I'm a Sushi snob, and very best Sushi places season each piece of fish appropriately, and their is no need to baptize each piece in soy sauce. Having said that, I will happily return to Sushi Bear nevertheless. It's a good place. p.s. check my Tustin Picks and Pans collection for other Tustin gems and some that are decidedly not gems. Cheers!
