Smithfield Tavern & Char Grill Steakhouse

We walked in and were informed that we had to order using our phones - no menu, no cash or cards, no waitress. The kitchen had already decided this would be our last visit. I always teach my children it's impolite to be on their phones at a restaurant, yet here we all were, ordering and paying on our devices. It took a long time to place our orders. The restaurant was nearly empty, with the only staff seemingly occupied with refilling salt shakers. Normally, the place is filled with seniors at dinner time, but it seems the new ordering system has driven them away too. The ribs my mom ordered were average, as was my chicken parmigiana - nothing special, just frozen fried food. Both dishes came with cold fries. My Caesar salad was disappointing - no anchovy or ice, with a dry bun, fake Parmesan cheese, tasteless dressing, and stale crumbs. We were the only customers inside, with one other table outside. The waitstaff were polite, but I sensed they had faced a lot of backlash due to the changes. I suspect the previous servers left for good reason. If you're a tourist, I wouldn't recommend this place - Cairns has much better options.

I went to this restaurant a few nights ago with my partner and a friend, and I have to say that the food we had was truly disappointing. None of us were able to finish our meals. I was expecting to be pleasantly surprised, but once I walked in, I realized it was an ALH-Pub with very poor quality food. My chicken dish was dry and tasteless, while my friend's steak was equally terrible. My partner's meal was also awful, and she could barely eat more than a few bites. Unfortunately, this was not the first time I have had a bad experience with the food at this restaurant. The staff, although friendly, could not make up for the terrible food. It's a shame that a restaurant with the resources of ALH cannot seem to serve decent meals. I would not recommend eating here unless you have very low expectations. The prices are high for the quality of food you receive. The only positive note I can give is that the chips were okay.

Was a good meal. pays 18 dollars for a cheeseburger and the kitchen staff do not tweak on the burger, as advertised on the menu. there were 4 more diners in the restaurant when we came to lunch on Monday. the personal was very unfriendly. good. don't think we're back.

Great food. Quick and simple. Salad special was really tasty with a lovely mix of ingredients. Fresh. Staff were jolly. It’s just great pub food. Atmosphere is lacking a bit but you can’t go far wrong for pub grub here.

Usually the service in the bistro is 4 star but the usual amazing guy was not there. I stood there for 5 minutes waiting for a table while the guy standing at the food counter looked at me 3 separate times. He finally walked over...with a grumpy face and asked if I had a booking, to which I replied no. He then said well go eat in the public bar and immediately turned his back on me. Well we went to the trinity beach hotel which was amazing and put the $400 we had for pokie and keno through their pub. Sad thing is the smithie was our fav local pub. NOT ANY MORE. AND THERE WAS VACANT TABLES, THATS THE WORST BIT.
