Bidra med feedbackThis restaurant is easy to miss. Just a door and a window and a brass plate on a street in a residential area. Judging by the pictures and prizes in the lobby, it has been there a while and the owner is a restauranteur of stature. No paper menu that I could see. The polite, young waiter recited the options to me. For an appetizer one has the option of visiting an extensive buffet of seafood preparations. For the main course I had the mixed grill of fish very good. Recommended.
I recently met friends for lunch at Trattoria Montecarlo. This trattoria is located in a residential/commercial part of Trieste, far away from the sites and attractions of city center. It was a hot summer day so we were hoping for a cool place to enjoy our lunch. The entrance is rather small and narrow, as you traverse a bar and kitchen area. I noted there was no air conditioning is this area. The back area opened to a large, covered terrace with ample seating. Tables were draped with tablecloths and service ware (dishes, utensils and glassware) was of average quality. There was no menu as our young waiter recounted what was available from the kitchen. We all decided to start with mixed antipasti from an antipasto buffet. There was a vast assortment of antipasti; mostly seafood and vegetables. All was very fresh and tasty. For an entree, I had grilled calamari (squid) and a side salad. The portion size was generous and the calamari were fresh, as was the salad. For dessert we all had the lemon sorbet, which unfortunately didn't taste lemony. Prices were reasonable with our above meal for four people, plus house wine and water, totaling 102.00 euro. Service was efficient and friendly, but there was nothing special about Trattoria Montecarlo that would entice me to return for another meal.
If you are looking for a good Italian dinner with true Italian ambiance this is the place to go. We arrived at opening time at 7 pm and were the first customers to arrive. We were seated and were offered drinks, ordered our food, which was a four-course meal, started our appetizers, and then the locals start to arrive. As it turned out, the place was full by the time we left. It turned out to be a very good local dinning experience, with an excellent wait staff, one of whom spoke English.
