Bidra med feedbackAs the hotel had no daytime refreshments we were delighted /relieved to find this friendly restaurant
We recently returned from a week long trip to Sicily staying at Villa Cecilia Trabia, a villa across the street from the hotel. First night, on arrival, we enjoyed great pizza, from Urais, the pizza restaurant at Hotel Tonnara and followed up the week with lunches and dinners in the beautiful outdoor setting. We were a large group of 12-18 people at any given meal and Anello, the restaurant manager, was so amazing! I can’t think of a meal that someone didn’t love but the highlights were definitely the pasta with clam sauce and pasta with mussels or just the mussels. This is a great little gem in Trabia and a highlight to our trip!
Upon arrival in Sicily one morning desparate for food wine! ..unsure where our destination was located in this area, we turned off the main road looked around..at the far end of a dismal parking lot was a sort of pizzeria/ristorante beach hut ..we nervously entered discovered something of a local gem..the huge plate of succulent mussels with which the table started put everyone at ease.. whilst they were not in fact doing pizza at lunchtime ? their generously-portioned pastas were terrif! We later returned for a dinner repeating the excellent mussels, trying their pizza I had a grandly-proportioned Calzone! others widening their gastro choices for mains...all good, but in all honesty, without real distinction. Better lunch than dinner I would say, but value certainly. Someone should smash all the BRIGHT WHITE COMPACT fluorescent lamps ....they 're most unattractive!
We were a group of six and had pizza and fish. The food was very good and the staff was helpful and friendly. The served us for free a large bowl of Cozze as a starter. Very nice! There were many local people eating at the place as well.
I have now eaten at La Tonnara several times including their Christmas special dinner which was a great experience, but last night surpassed all that went before. The front of house restaurant manager, Gerry Anello , looked after us as usual with his unobtrusive input, recommending dishes and wines, he speaks most western European languages, so that helps, The area specialises in sea food because fresh everything comes from the many fishermen every day and cooked and presented the way their chefs do, it will almost melt in your mouth. A mass of delicious tastes. I like good food, but this is excellent. Go there if you can. It is right next to the sea and seating outside in the summer places you almost on the beach.
