Bidra med feedbackVery good restaurant reception at the top .... and especially excellent cassoulet. I recommend
Pleasant setting, very friendly server and the prestige menu very correct. good foie gras, cassoulet is the specialty, it is very well, a little disappointed by the soft crustade and no crustling.
Have to say we had a terrible meal at Le Colombier in Toulouse. Started with an amuse bouche which was like a stale sausage roll without the sausage. The ravioli starter was swimming in a soup and had no content. My snails were leathery and without any flavour. Surely defrosted?! The main fish was 'tacaud ' or 'whiting ' which is usually used to make fish fingers. It had no flavour or consistency. It was watery as if it had been defrosted. Boiled potatoes tasted reheated and green beans over-cooked The cheese at the end was strangely wet and disintegrated on touch. No flavour. ?defrosted. The apple tart also seemed old or defrosted. No flavour. Restaurant owner rejected our feedback. No concession. Such a shame. Do not spend your money here. There are many other wonderful restaurants in Toulouse.
I would rate this 4.5 if I could! You would easily walk past this on the street, but we’re glad to have found it. It’s harder to find Toulouse Cassoulet than you think and a restaurant that had enough options to satisfy 7 adults 2 kids (10 7). This is the one. They had multiple set menus and also a la carte. As we ordered our different options the lady serving us asked us if she could move the meals around to fit in the set menu to save money very much appreciated. The foie gras was very generous and could easily serve 2. L’escargot was as expected and not chewy. Highly recommend the crayfish ravioli, it was firm so they held the shape, flavour was perfect. Duck confit was tasty and crispy which also fell off the bone, lamb shank also very tender and fell off the bone and had a coating of sauce which was flavour some. Duck breast was cooked perfectly pink. I’m not a big fan of beans, but the cassoulet was delicious. Goose leg was tender, sausage firm and the sauce the beans were cooked in… yum… Then on to desserts: apple crisp with a choice of ice cream, crème brûlée, chocolate cake and cheese board. Highly recommend as everything hit the spot and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would imagine you may need to book nearer the weekend, but as it was a Tuesday, they seated us easily.
We stayed in Toulouse 2 nights; one before and after our trip to Andorra. We ate here both nights. I chose this out after much research on TripAdvisor and picked it based on the location (halfway between our hotel and the train station), the menu options, the lack of real choices in Toulouse, and even the reviews! We had a reservation at opening time and arrived on Thursday, 21 October 2021. My other half had the Menu Regional at 32€. This included Le Vrai Cassoulet du Colombier with Goose Confit and Salad with Garlic and Croutons plus dessert. We had something similar in a restaurant off the park in Montpellier in early 2020 and found that one, even though it's a Toulouse specialty, much tastier in Montpellier! It also came with a salad. For dessert, he had an apple tarte. I had one of the best fish dishes ever as I chose the Authentic menu for 27,50€. I started with 6 escargots in garlic butter (I've had better but mine were still very good unlike a previous reviewer) plus flan for dessert. We each had 50cl of house wine for 16€, rouge pour moi et blanc pour lui! It was very good and convenient so we made reservations again for Monday night, 25 October 2021 and returned. I knew that we would get a friendly reception and a good meal. We both had wine as before but splurged on their more expensive menu, the Prestige. I chose Panache of Foie Gras to start and had the same, delicious fish again plus warm chocolate cake for dessert. My other half started with the Ravioli With Crayfish and Asparagus Crustacean Sauce for the entree and then the duck breast for the main followed by the warm chocolate cake as well. All was good. I would return if back in Toulouse but wouldn't order the cassoulet. I am giving a 4 because it was good but not one of the best plus the Toulouse specialty cassoulet was better in Montpellier? Service was friendly and welcoming, the bathroom was clean, the area was safe, you could see boys working out across the street, etc, but in conclusion, I just didn't find the quality and choice of restaurants as good in Toulouse as elsewhere in France!
