Bidra med feedbackWe had a very bad experience here. Not very friendly service and worse of all one hour of waiting for our lunch. I would not recommend this place.
Eating here was a truly dreadful experience. We booked a table at this bistro for two reasons: the reviews on Tripadvisor were in the main good and it is close to the hotel where we stayed. We’d reserved a table for 8.30 on a Saturday night and when we arrived the place was fairly quiet with just a couple of tables occupied. We ordered fish soup for two, but were told they only had enough for one (at 8.30 on a Saturday night?) so I opted for the remaining soup and my wife chose foie gras. A bowl of brown gunge arrived which was my fish soup and when I enquired why it looked so bizarre I was informed it was “soupe de poisson à la maison”. It looked like puréed baby food (worse actually - work it out) and tasted of nothing in particular, certainly not fish. With the soup came a side salad which was encouraging, but they’d even managed to nause that up. The salad was sprinkled with curry powder and tasted awful. For crying out loud, how can you ruin a salad? Answer – by sprinkling it with curry powder. My wife’s foie gras also came with a salad which had received the same ruinous treatment.I followed with a beef brochette and frites and was prepared for the worst. Just as well, it was bad, but the frites elevated disgusting cuisine to an art form. The meat was badly cooked and presented, but Lord have mercy the frites looked like they’d been dredged from the bottom of the fryer after weeks of cooking. My wife had steak and frites and while her steak was OK-ish, she had an identical little mesh basket of curled up, dark brown, sinister-looking chips.Usually I would have told the waiter these were unacceptable and demanded freshly cooked replacements, but by then we’d both had enough and just wanted to eat what we could, pay and leave. So we did.I amazed at the two (English language) glowing reviews of this place and assume that either we dined when the chef (ho, ho) was having a bad night, or the other reviewers need to get out more. We’re in our 70s, live in France and before moving here visited France on a regular basis for decades. In all that time this has been the worst meal we’ve been served. I can think of nothing to commend the Bistro du Compans.
Normally the French plates are reasonable in size and do not overwhelm the patron; however, the Chicken Caesar salad could have been split by at least two people. The salad was fabulous and the chick cooked to perfection, but not overcooked as it was moist. The French bread coupled by a sparkling water completed the lunch. Would strongly recommend for those in the area.
We had a lunch time menu it was all was lovely with great service, panna cotta au fruits rouge was to die for.
Went here today with a few of my friends.
