Bidra med feedbackWhat an interesting place this is. The pub served consistently good pub style food on a number of times we visited. This pub makes a great stop on the way from Whitfield to Mansfield and the views along the way help to make the trip very worhtwhile
What a fabulous surprise we found! After visiting Stringybark Creek where Ned Kelly had a shootout killing 3 policeman many, many years ago, we were feeling a little peckish and found the Tolmie Tavern. This tavern although small, is so full of personality, a really feel good atmosphere and typical friendly really nice guys behind the bar. The wood fires were keeping this tavern so beautifully warm, the deco in the restaurant area was all based on Ned Kelly while the rest of the tavern walls were covered by everything community, all interesting eg. photos, memorabilia, posters. The two welcoming guys working in the bar, behind the bar, doing maintenance work as well, really looked the countryman part. Both had very long beards, great personalities, genuine good blokes. We were offered toasted ham & cheese sandwiches with a bowl of chips. Of course we accepted and they were amongst the best toasted sandwiches and chips we had ever had. Well done guys and we would strongly recommend anyone to call in and say 'Hi', have a toasted sandwich and chips. We will again next time!
With a group of friends we descended on Tolmie Tavern for lunch, great little u on the main road to Mansfield. All our group actually ordered different options and were very impressed with the friendly service and excellent meals provided.
After a huge day horseriding through the bush and hiking up Mr.Buller, we were starving and in need of a beer! Merrijig hotel was closed for private function, so only by chance we ended up at Tolmie Hotel! Flat head fillers & Chicken Parmas all round! Cold Carlton Draught on tap (or Bulmers cider on tap) or small selection of beers frm fridge. We ate huge meals. Was actually too much for me, my companions managed to eat most or all of theirs ... all served with chips & salad. Great country pub, with live music on a truck parked out front of deck. Worth the drive for 'traditional no fuss pub grub' @ a reasonable price due to size of meal!
The Tolmie Tavern is your ideal country pub described as the Tavern with local country characters and a great menu selection. It has been established for many years and was recently purchased by "DOC" and the bar and restaurant is run by Sunny. Just love the nicknames as you never know their actual given names. Everybody has a nickname and are a friendly lot. The beer is cold and the menu is very good for a country pub. We had a boys' weekend attending the Targa High Country Rally incorporating Mansfield to Whitfield Run on Saturday and the Pub is ideally locating as you can sit outside on either of two decks and watch the cars passing during the day. We dined on Friday night and two of us selected the Pork Belly with vegs which was a suckling pig cooked to perfection which we both commented on the presentation. Great value for money.
