The Mayfly Riverside Pub - Test Valley

We were sat right by the kitchen so we could see everything pretty much that was going on. We went there for a couple of drinks thinking that we would possibly eat. But after seeing the way the kitchen staff were around food we decided otherwise. A cook scratching his face constantly and then putting his hands in a frozen bag of chips put us off. There didn't seem much hygiene going on. Also for the prices they charge, cant they cut their own chips? Anyway the beer was ok. I would not go there to eat, but drink is ok.

We had a lovely meal at the Mayfly on a freezing Friday night in January. We had booked ahead and alerted them that we wished to bring our dog. We were seated in a cosy corner and decided what we wanted to eat. Badger the dog was provided with a bowl of water and enjoyed lots of fuss. Service was swift and charming. Our food choices were all delicious, hot and served with a smile. We had a thoroughly lovely evening. We highly recommend this warm and welcoming place to eat.

The Mayfly never fails to deliver. Beautiful location, warm welcoming cosy atmosphere, superb friendly staff, lovely reasonably priced food and London Pride. We felt we had to visit once more this year (our 7th) and so worth it. Happy New Year to all at the Mayfly.

A somewhat delayed (30 years! return visit on a winter day in watery sunshine. A very pleasant experience. Friendly, efficient service; nice atmosphere (it was very busy . The food was excellent: beetroot salad starter, bream fillet and trout as mains for the two of us, sticky toffee pudding (very light as a mini-pudding with coffee. I don’t recognise any of the previous negative comments. The optional service charge was pointed out to us. Would be happy to return.

Christmas lunch was simply perfect! Food was superb and totally scrumptious. Service was excellent as always... thankyou Eloise and Michelle! Ably managed together with excellent chef and team in the kitchen. Everything went like clockwork. A completely successful Christmas lunch so thankyou Mayfly team see you in 2024!
