Bidra med feedbackOur luncheon meal at Café Revuelta was magical. Our waiter, the son of the chef, sensed that we were having a hard time making choices for our lunch. He asked what we did not like to eat, whether we had allergies, and what we really...liked to eat. At that moment he asked if we would trust him to prepare some dishes for us. What followed was a meal to remember. We started with a mixed salad of greens and goat cheese. The cheese made the dish. We have found that many of the cheeses in Mexico are not the most flavorful. This one was an exception. It was very flavorful and made the salad a great start. Next, were three flat tacos with chicken and mole. Extremely flavorful and not too heavy. I have been to Oaxaca and some of the moles there can be very heavy. This was not. And, the consistency and taste were outstanding. The next plate was some noodles (linguine) with cheese. Here again, the cheese had a real “kick” to hit. It was very flavorful. The noodles tasted as good as they do in Italy. I didn’t ask but they must have been made using semolina flour. Finally, we had two tacos – one filled with beef, pork and vegetables and the other with beef and potatoes. What a combination and what flavors. Our waiter was ready to offer another dish but we told him that we were more than satisfied. We had a delicious wine to accompany our lunch. I am not sure why it is called a Gastrobar. There wasn’t a bar in this smallish restaurant. Not sure what the other restaurant (more later) looks like. I also forgot to ask the waiter about the title of Gastrobar. At this point the waiter introduced us to his father, the chef, and his mother, the manager. They all work seven days a week and love what they are doing – and it shows. Casa Revuelta is a small restaurant that serves lunch and dinner just outside of Tequisquiapan in a small “strip mall”. However, on weekends it serves meals in their “other” restaurant located in a vineyard outside of Tequisquiapan. If you come to Tequisquiapan and don’t eat here, you will have made a BIG MISTAKE!
Unfortunately the have moved to a winery nearby tequis. But they prepare excellent food and good wines from the region..
Where to start, try the food and wine pairing course. Come back and eat the the Cerviche Tostadas and drink the White wine/Grenache blend (I never expected to enjoy a rose' as much as I enjoyed this wine) all night long. My wife and I...ate there several times and on a night when the soccer finals was on (I am not a soccer fan), the restaurant started to close down and transform. Someone brought a large flat screen TV out of their wheel drive and mounted it on the wall, people started to show up in their team jerseys and their children and poof this small little place was magically transformed into a family friendly sports bar! My wife and I were the last ones there and were invited to stay and watch the game with the owner and his family! It was an amazing experience and a night I will never forget!
