Great location, great staff and an all round great pub. Well worth a visit with good food and it’s dog friendly too

Really lovely pub in Broadhempston. Good food, great service, dog-friendly, comfortable and cozy. Well worth a visit.

We spent a few days away in Broadhempston and visited the Monks Retreat a couple of times for drinks and for an evening meal. Each time we visited, we were made to feel extremely welcome. The pub is dog friendly which is a massive bonus as well. The menu is small but provides a good selection, there is also a specials board that has a great variety. The food we had was really well prepared and delicious, I had a burger which was cooked to perfection and my wife had a thai inspired baked cod dish, which was fabulous. We cannot recommend the Monks Retreat highly enough, if you are in the area a visit is a must.

I was recommended this amazing restaurant by a friend and it turned out to be the perfect rural pub. The friendly staff greeted us warmly and the menu offered a great mix of traditional pub dishes and more unique options, all expertly prepared by a talented chef. We enjoyed the delicious hake in tomato sauce and the gammon with fresh pineapple and egg. The homemade desserts were a lovely ending to our meal. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and it was evident that the locals love this place. Although it's quite a distance from our home, we will definitely be returning for another memorable evening. Thank you to the staff for a great experience!

Beautiful restaurant with friendly staff and an amazing chef. I have been twice and my partner claims it has the best pie he has ever tasted. The lamb rump was delicious. We returned for Sunday roast and it was perfect - the meat was cooked perfectly, with the beef pink and tender and the pork belly crispy and melting. The roast potatoes and parsnips were fabulous, as were the selection of vegetables and the proper cauliflower cheese. The prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be returning, as this restaurant is a hidden gem.
