O Sole mio - Tamsweg

It was the only place open late in the village. When we arrived there the restaurant was full so we were lucky getting a table. The Waiter and probably owner of the place , an Italian was very open and very friendly with customers. The night we arrived he said he could only cook pizza or spaghetti and salads ,no meat dishes. So we tried Gigante Salad, two different spaghetti dishes from menu and Gnocchi al Gorgon, delicious!!!The food was excellent , a special beer called Dunkel very refreshing and also great taste. We had a lovely dinner, food was typical Italian and tasty and the bill was also reasonable too. If you are in the area try this lovely restaurant

The food that was served was not so bad. Its very difficult to screw up a pizza (although people often do,) but so much more difficult to make a great pizza. Here is was just very average. What was strange though is charging two euro extra because we ordered only one pizza and they have a policy of putting the pizza on two plates and charging for this. When we found this extra charge on receipt we were pointed to the German language menu and told it was written on the menu. They knew that we couldn't read German. Its a very petty way to run a restaurant and in all 49 countries that I have visited and the many thousands of restaurants I have eaten at, this is the first time I have encountered this. Stupid way to run a restaurant.

Our first meal in Mauterndorf was in this restaurent and all of us were satisfied, but on our second visit to the place they charged us for the tab water! which was oddAs we inquiered the answer was we asked for a refiil. for 6 persons one big bottle isn't enough,more over that on our first meal we weren't charged. This caused us not to go there again.

It is a nice, small Italian restaurant with pleasant atmosphere. We had a dinner there. All the dishes were tasty and delicious. Staffs were friendly.

Whenever we stay in Mauterndorf, we make sure we have at least two meals in this great restaurant. It is authentic Italian food in an authentic Italian atmosphere. My favourite is penne alla norma! The wines are really good too! If the weather is good - the tables on the square are ideal for watching the world go by - but inside - it is like stepping into another world with the wood panelled rooms full of history. Everyone is so friendly and we are always greeted like old friends. Try it! It opens late afternoon until late!
