Bidra med feedbackThe Mac n cheese was amazing and the food was good but we felt the prices were a bit high. Staff was friendly. Some attention to cleanliness would be a definite boost. We had to have cleaned table wiped down and noticed other areas that could use a good scrub. Overall, we would recommend this place to others. The salmon was very good but the green beans and taters weren't hot. The service was great. It was really loud at first with the music, then someone turned it down. The salad was good but needed more romaine and less boring cheap lettuce. I enjoyed the Bear theme. It's a fine family place and has a nice bar.
I really wanted to like this place. The menu looked so good. But... we order a burger and a melt. My son ordered his burger medium rare and my melt was medium. Both were served very rare. If they weren't browned on the outside I would have thought they weren't cooked at all. And, they way they were such perfectly shaped round and smooth, I am guessing they were pre-made frozen patties. The dressings, mushrooms, salsa, everything to go with the sandwiches were perfect. Nevertheless, the draft beer was served in a 10 ounce glass. I was just disappointed the experience was so less than mediocre. It wasn't horrible. But, there are enough other places in town, I probably won't be back. Sorry.
Something for everyone! While the menu is extensive, we seem to have gotten the meals that are more so on the mediocre side. The white gumbo had a decent flavor, but lacked shrimp and sausage, and other than the occasional nibbles of meat, it was more on level of cream of potato soup. At $8/bowl, I expected at least 3-5 whole shrimp, and chunks if not slices of sausage (I got a max of 2 chopped medium shrimp, and the sausage was thin sliced and halfed). Presentation wasn't bad but the flavor was lacking. The portion sizes were decent, but I guess I expected more, in terms of flavor and pizzaz, lunch for $25. Most plates are in the $12-$15 range no matter what time you go, so a lunch menu would be a welcomed site. I'll be visiting once more, and hopefully this time the entrées wow me.
Flying Bear has a pleasant and upbeat dining area, plus outdoor seating. I ordered the Linden Burger with Street Corn as my side. For $13.50, the burger and corn were disappointing. Not a good value for the money. The portion size and patty size were more in line with a $10.50 burger. I would recommend going with another menu item if you want more value for your spend. Overall, taste was great and service very attentive, though yelling from someone in the kitchen towards the staff was unpleasant.
