Cafe Taverna - Tallahassee

Southwest food at a great price. I was a little off when my first two meals were not available, but both the meals my wife and I got (lechon, kroque madame) were fantastic. the coffee is also really good, better than most coffee shops here and comes with refilling. the service is very friendly and helpful. it's a bit waiting for this to come, but it's absolutely worth it.

I have been here twice. Once for brunch and once for dinner. I enjoyed the food everything was well seasoned and cooked nicely. At brunch, I ordered a couple add ons to create the meal I wanted but it was worth it. One of my tastiest add ons was the fried green tomatoes. (I didn't get a good value for the cost though). I found the service to be friendly but slow during brunch and it was not packed or busy. The next time I returned for dinner, EVERYTHING was delicious and the service was great! The bread was fresh. The butter that went on the bread was AMAZING. I had corn chowder with lump crab added tasty! My steak was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were seasoned to compliment the meal. The service may be slightly hit or miss but the food is a win!

What a spectacular place for brunch! I didn’t even know this place existed until recently. Definitely enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere and the food!

This was a happy find on our travels. This place was delicious and priced fairly. The atmosphere was nice, too. The lost star was for service being really slow and disconnected. I understand servers get busy, but it wasn't busy enough for the level of disconnection with our server, the 20 minute wait for a hot cocoa, failed condiment requests, and dry interaction. That is on her, not the restaurant itself. They are new and finding their legs. Cafe Taverna is worth a visit...and a repeat visit.

First of all, let me say that the actual location of the restaurant, decor and bar are fantastic. The night I went, there was a 20% off of discount their smaller plate menu. I 'm assuming there is a daily discount/special of some sort, which is nice. While the server an older male) was particularly kind, he was unable to cope with our 15+ person party. Though we absolutely called ahead and made reservations, there was still only 1 server and 1 bartender trying to take care of the entire restaurant! Our food took an inordinate amount of time to come out. Also, NONE of us were able to eat together because the food trickled out of the kitchen in no particular order. It took several hours for all of us to finally eat and get drinks from the bar non-alcoholic drinks). I don 't believe this was either servers fault. There was a serious issue with both the lack of staff and possibly the kitchen suffered from this too. Once upon a time I worked closely with one of the chefs there and, I know from personal experience that he is majorly talented and efficient. This evening must have been a serious fluke. A restaurant can 't operate probably if there 's a kink in the chain. As to the quality of the food, I 'd say it was fair but, not worth the price. I got a cheese meat board with zero indication of which item was what. As artful as the food looked indeed tasted at times) some of it was downright gross. The meat board left much to be desired. Tough, some how tasteless slices of meat with nothing to wash it down with, was what I received. Because of the wait what I saw/tasted on other people 's plate I actually never ordered a main dish, which is really lame. The presentation of the plates were really beautiful though. Clearly there was a talented expo at work. For the most part the quality of the actual food was pretty good....but nothing tastes fantastic after sitting under a hot lamp for 30 minutes. That 's just a fact. Ultimately, even though I 've given this place a good ol ' dressing down....I 'd definitely give them another shot. There 's a lot of potential for a good time great food. I know the head chef knows what he 's doing. That evening was likely an isolated incident. I 'd say check it out, order small get a feel for the wait staff situation. If it 's the same...well then write a review! I want so badly to support local businesses....so I will give them another shot. Hope this helps!
