Bidra med feedbackExcellent service, served by a really friendly guy called Diego. Yummy food and beautiful decor and dark warm atmosphere : The tacos were really small and not really worth $7 each but the loaded chips, quesadillas and chilaquiles were all good sized portions and worth it
On a Friday evening, barrio cellar was very vibrant, packed full of people. I came here with my friend who was visiting Sydney from Newcastle. I ordered the hamburgesa burrito. I was so pleased with this decision because it was so filling! Everything about it was perfect. There was so much flavour and lots of sauce, to my liking. The portion is pretty big. I did not even have any of my chips that came on the side because I was so full after eating the burrito. My friends helped me out eating the chips. <br/ <br/ The only feedback I have is that it was too dark and noisy. I prefer places that are well lit so you can at least see what you are eating. At 7 pm it was just too noisy inside. I found it hard to hear the people at my table. <br/ <br/ I would have given a higher mark for service if we didn't have to wait at the till for the waiter to work out how to use the machine. <br/ <br/ Food: 9/10<br/ Service: 8/10<br/ Ambience: 5/10
With weekday specials, Barrio Cellar is both delicious and affordable. Enjoy $10 burgers on a Monday, $3 tacos on a Tuesday and half a dozen wings for $6 on a Wednesday. That’s dinner done for three out of the seven. <br/ <br/ This buzzy basement space off Elizabeth Street is relaxed and welcoming, billed as a ‘late night tequileria and eatery’. The food is fresh, serving everyone’s Mexican and Southern Californian favourites – try the quesadillas, jalapeño poppers or loaded fries. And the drinks list is not for the faint hearted, with a hectic selection of cocktails, tequila and mezcal. <br/ <br/ Oh and did I mention there’s a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights?
Great for weekday happy hours and casual dates! Got me at the neon sign at the entrance leading to the dimly lit basement that says “Everything with Tequila”. After all, who can’t use some tequila on a Tuesday after work? Their Taco Tuesday deal is quite good $3 for chicken, portobello, black beans, and fish tacos. Unfortunately the prawn and cheeseburger tacos are not part of the deal and cost a premium $7. The fish taco was good but could use a little more sauce. My favorite is the portobello! Very tasty and the proportion of the portobello is just right. The tacos are on the smaller side (I had 5 and was nowhere near full), and the drinks are pricy but nothing special. Of the cocktails, I recommend the Fiesta de Luces (honeydew Margarita) if you like fruity drinks.
I'd describe Barrio Cellar as a secluded underground Mexican oasis in the CBD. As it happens, this is a really cool idea for a cultural restaurant, as it really feels like you're in another world due to its hidden nature. Food tastes authentic and staff are very friendly. Atmosphere is made intimate with a dim, hot red light, and as you'd expect, the entire place is decorated with Mexican decor and artwork. Definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in Sydney!
