Bidra med feedbackWe have visited this restaurant twice. The first time was last September when there were four of us. We had a wonderful evening with delicious curries and desserts. We also enjoyed live music, which was a great way to relax after lockdown. Our second visit was at lunchtime with just the two of us, and once again we had no complaints. The food was nice and the staff were friendly. We look forward to visiting more often once things return to normal. This restaurant is a really lovely local spot.
This place has recently changed hands so ignore bad reviews from over 2 months ago. Food delicious my small negative was on my plate the smoked salmon was a bit dry everything else on the plate perfect. Hubbie had ribs and thought them great. Service great male waiter had great sense of humour. New decoration really tasteful
Well what can I say.... the food was amazing lots of choice on the menu even though it was a Sunday you had a choice of roast dinner or anything from the normal menu 3 of us chose a roast dinner and I have to say it was amazing... the other two of us chose the brisket and again it was amazing.... please dont be put off by some of the bad reviews I would highly recommend this restaurant... you will not be disappointed!!!
Firstly, I would like to inform potential diners that if they are expecting real smoked bbq food, please do not come to this establishment, you will be hugely disappointed. What you see in the Tripadvsior picture gallery, is NOT what you will receive (at least, this was the case for us (a group of 4 on 21st August 2019 . It is unfortunate that I have to write this negative review, as the staff were really friendly, and this is in no way a reflection of their service. But ultimately, it all comes down to the quality of the meal and this fell far below satisfactory for all 4 of us. I booked this restaurant for my friends and I, for a birthday celebration, and we were all very much dissatisfied with our meals. Whilst one of us made a formal complaint regarding the food, three of us decided we didn’t want the evening to be a negative one for our friend who was celebrating her birthday, so we got on with our evening. The one meal which had to be sent back to the kitchen was especially poor, and we were quite insulted that it had even past the kitchen doors. My friend had ordered the ‘black truffle mac and cheese with bread crumbs and chilli oil there was no black truffle, no chilli oil or breadcrumbs. It was essentially plain dry pasta with a few flakes of cheese served with 4 slices of sandwich bread. There was no taste to it whatsoever. My friend had even said a 50p packet of mac and cheese tasted far superior than what she was served. Now, before we get attacked by the owner/public relations manager (as done so below , I would just like to confirm that we are not pretentious people, we just expect to be served the meal that is being advertised on the menu. Once my friend complained, the lovely waiter was very apologetic and got her meal changed to a halloumi dish, but to be honest, this was no better than something you can pick up from the frozen section at a supermarket and at £8, this was very much overpriced. Thankfully, both her items were removed from the bill. My two other friends had ordered the burgers, they confirmed that these were average the bun was crumbling and the oil/fat from the meat was dripping out of the bun, so not ideal. Nonetheless, these were edible. I had ordered the slow roasted beef brisket with shallot purée, smoked buttered mash, wilted greens and BBQ beer gravy. I ordered this based on the pictures I had come across on the company website, and from previous posts here on TA. The food in the pictures looked incredible – something that a professional chef would cook. But instead, I was served a microwaved meal. I’m not entirely sure what the meat was, but it most definitely was not slow cooked beef brisket! (see image for reference, you can clearly see the quality of the beef is not the same, I was served something very cheap! . They also failed to serve me the shallot puree and the wilted greens, instead, I was given microwaved peas. I wasn’t even informed that the ‘chef’ would be making this substitution nor was I give an explantion. The ‘smoked buttered mash’ was simply plain dry mash, no flavour whatsoever, and no signs of the smoked butter. The ‘BBQ beer gravy’ was anything but that. As we paid for our food, we remained friendly as the waiter was very pleasant, and it wasn’t his fault that the food had been poor. He did apologise and asked us to ‘try them again when they have a chef’. This left us all puzzled as this implied that they were running the restaurant without a professional chef. Now, if there wasn’t a chef on board, all customers should have been informed that the quality of the food would be reflected as a result. Had I been made aware of this, I would have cancelled the booking and picked a different restaurant. Overall, such a disappointment – Note to venue: Please do not advertise items on the menu and then go on to serving customers something completely different without an explanation. Furthermore, if you do not have a chef, please either close the restaurant, or inform your customers beforehand so that they can make an informed decision as to whether they would still like to go ahead with the booking.
I visited this shabby old place to treat my family and friends to some grilled/bbq food on Sunday, only to discover on arrival that it was roast lunches with about 4 other choices which looked nothing like the on line menu/descriptions. We nearly changed our minds about staying but instead decided to give this place a chance to surprise us. Surprise us they did!!! But not in a good way at all... I have bullet pointed our description of the experience below. One person serving who clearly could not cope. Extremely limited choice unless you wanted Roast lunch?? Had to wait 45 mins plus before any food arrived My Burger relived cold and with no onion rings as did my sons I asked to change to the Roast pork which arrived with soggy burnt Yorkshire pudding and wet non crispy potatoes. I did not get the chance to eat with my friends as my food took so long. It was clear my food had been finished in the microwave to make it hot and of course limp but the plate was still cold. The gravy was acetic and very strange?? We were seated under lights that didn’t work next to an open door. Very gloomy and no ambience at all. The man serving brought BBQ sauce and mayonnaise and dumped it at the end where we were all eating the bland roast food. Surely he could have made the effort to put it next to the people that requested it?? He kept apologising and yet when I went to pay the extortionate bill £103) he took me to the other bar where drinkers were eating big piled up plates of potatoes and roast pork which I was made to pay for. Talk about rubbing ones nose in it eh!!!! NB: Nothing was taken off my bill in the way of an apology so obviously he was not sorry at all. We were all absolutely disgusted and of course very disappointed by the whole experience and unless the management contacts me I intend to let everyone I possibly can know to stay well away from this so called Smokehouse restaurant.
