Bidra med feedbackSince I live on the other side of the county I don't get by there very often, but I need to make a special trip soon. As a person who loves all things seafood I can say that these are some of the best crabcakes that I have had anywhere. Oh yeah, and the sauces are very good also. Can't pick a favorite. Also very friendly and knowledgeable lady that served us.
At Blake’s Crab Cakes, this is the 5 oz crab cake for $12.99 with a side of potato chips as well as a full order of Old Bay Wings (8) for $9.50. These prices are based on the menu on their site I honestly can’t remember what I personally paid for them. Sorry! The location is extremely unassuming, smack dab in the middle of a small strip, as most great places are. My friend and I arrived in the middle of the day and found no one there, save for two employees, one manning the front and the other in the back. The lady at the front greeted us with a smile and a casual way of speaking that embodied the “neighborhood joint” vibe. There were only two or three small tables that could fit in the dining area and the rest of the seating was bar style at the window. Upon first glance at the menu, I was surprised by the cost of the crab cakes although I was aware that real crab is quite expensive as far as meat goes. My friend who IS well versed in crab cakes agreed with me on the price. After discussing our options, we went with the crab cakes (duh). I also had to get the wings because I needed at least something I had experience with. I was tempted to get the soup but figured I’d save it for another day. The food was ready in about 10 minutes and it was steaming fresh. As a complete crab cake newbie, I was a bit let down by the size of the cake at first, but when I held it, I understood. It was extremely dense. Upon cracking it open for that moneyshot above/below, a cloud of delectably scented steam escaped from its tender filling. What met my eyes was nothing short of amazing chunks upon chunks of real never frozen crab lump meat. It was hard to pick out where the breading was because there was so little of it. It seemed to exist just to hold together that white flaky flesh. When I took a bite into it, the buttery sweetness washed over my palette with the most tender of loving caresses. And then before I knew it, it was over and I was sad, because that was a small cake. In retrospect, I do feel like it could have used a slight bit more seasoning because overall, the entire cake had a very mild taste. Yes I know crab is mild, but I wanted a tiny bit more. On to the wings. They were fried well and had a pleasant crispy exterior with tender meat within. The oil was fresh and didn’t taste like days worth of other chicken from before. Very nice! That being said, I didn’t find the wings to hit me the same way the cake did. These wings were of average size compared to most restaurants, not “jumbo” like I prefer from places that specialize in that kind of thing (ie Buffalo Wild Wings...or surprisingly, Pizza Hut). The old bay seasoning was mild at best. All in all, I had a decent experience at Blake’s Crab Cakes. I paid premium price for a premium product when I ordered the cake itself, and I got precisely what I paid for. This guy definitely knows his way around a crab. I imagine his crab soup is just as good (I am kicking myself for not trying it). Service and personality were fantastic. I would rate my experience overall an old bay seasoned 3.5 out of 5 quacks. I would highly suggest giving this place a shot as soon as possible because, if the Facebook page is any indication, any weekend could be it’s last at that location and I’d hate to know anyone missed out! Just please check them on Facebook before you go, because that’s where they update on whether they’re open or not, out of fresh crab or not, etc. Maybe call ahead too. It’s that kind of place and is totally worth doing so. Tampa Bay Food Duck
A small place, 1table then a area built in front of the window with chairs to sit and eat. Ordered what was called a large bowl of Crab soup, an order of Crab cakes(2) order of fries and an order of Macaroni Salad with Shrimp. The LG bowl of soup was a 16 oz container that Crab meat comes in and not full. But tasty. Crab cakes good Macaroni salad good but small portion. We will try it once more.

The crab cakes were the most authentic crab cakes I have had since leaving Maryland! Blake (the owner) was super nice and even gave us instructions to make the crab cakes at home! Definitely recommend!
