Bidra med feedbackSo I ordered poutine and cod bits about a month ago asked for well cooked frys everything was ok but when it came to the end of the poutine the frys were stuck to the cardboard plate and the cod bits were cod jerky. So...I decided to give it another try figure it was just a bad day. Ok this time it was worse asked for well cooked frys none of them were very under cooked the wings were burnt and again I got cod jerky for bits. But the upside they refunded me for my order.
We went to Big R last week as we hadn't been there in years. We were disappointed to say the least. The fish portions were very small and the batter wasn't good. The homemade fries were soggy or reheated. We won't be back until we...hear things have improved.
I finally made it "home" this summer to Newfoundland after being away for 9 years, and getting a good meal of fish was at the top of my priority list. After having had a disappointing meal at Ches's the day before, my brother suggested we try this place for lunch. He really likes Big R and comes here regularly. They had a special on fish 'n brewis, so we both ordered that. I must say that it was the worst I have ever had. It was a really small portion, extremely dry and completely tasteless. I am not sure if there was a quarter cup of fish in it or not. I noticed afterwards that the item was erased from the blackboard when we went to pay, so maybe someone else complained, or we got the tail end of it... In any case, I hope the rest of their fish is better than what we had. I saw the big helpings that other diners were getting and really regretted my choice.
My son and I set out on Monday, to go to Leo's, as we heard they had great fish and chips. I have been everywhere but wanted a change.Oh noooo the place was closed...... it was a holiday. Now what!As I no longer live in town, so trying to figure out where to go.Then I thought of the Big R...a place I used to go, as a little girl. It had a different name then. I insisted and told my son....that is where we will go.I don't know where to start........WOW, I guess....it was the best fish and chips ever! Even my son was impressed and he is sooooo fussy....it has to be just right and it was.It was so tasty...both the fish AND chips. The thing that stood out the most was how thick and white the cod fillets were...it was unreal and the batter crispy...done to perfection.I could not keep this finding to myself, as my sister and brother are always looking for new places......actually looking for the right place.I was on the phone, as soon as I returned home ,as my brother was the one who told me about Leo's fish and chips.I am not saying I won't try Leo's but I can tell you...it can't be any better than yours.I am still passing the word, so you might see a few new faces soon.Thank-you for knowing how to cook fish and chips properly. Some of the big restaurants should go get a few pointers from your cook.
