Bidra med feedbackMy wife and I were in St. Goar (see my Rhein hotel review), which is a great place to center in the picturesque Rhine Valley. A 3-minute drive from our hotel and we stayed in this restaurant. Nice evening, so we sat outside on the terrace with magnificent views of vineyards, the river with all its traffic, a beloved village on the way, freight and passenger trains over the river and a magnificent castle over the Rhine. Perfect, but what about the food? I had an amazing calf steak with seasonal chantelles and the best ever gnocchi in a sauce something like Hollandaise, while my wife had a large plate of baked chicken, Roti potato cake and a salad. This was one of my favorite foods everywhere, but surely in our 30 days travel Germany.
We absolutely loved our dinner at this hotel. The food was delicious. Vegetables were incredibly fresh! But the reason for this is for the view in a week on the Rhine was this the only restaurant where we sat directly on the Rhine, not over the road with cars that block our view. Especially. Huge terrace so many good places. Many other Rhine restaurants have just a few tables with a view.
Landsknecht is my favorite Rhine hotel by far, partially for the nice restaurant. For lunch or a more causal dinner, dine on their Rheinterasse, one of the very few restaurants in the Rhine Gorge area that is directly ! on the Rhine, with no road or railroad between you and the marvelous, busy river. Enjoy the view of castle and vineyards while you enjoy the food and wine. Wines from the family vineyard are also quite good. Inside dining is also available in either a new, modern dining room with great views of the river or in a more traditional room. During my last visit I enjoyed 2 of their special menus, one more of a gourmet menu and the other offering traditional cuisine of the region. Both were delicious and well-presented, with staff that were adequately attentive but not over-bearing. I've tried many other restaurants between Boppard and Rudesheim and both sides of the Rhine, but the one I return to most often is Landsknecht for the combo of good food, good view and easy adjacent parking too. It's a short distance outside of St. Goar and thus not in the heavy tourist area. The hotel is very good as well.
At EUR 50 or so for a lunch for two people in mid-September, my wife and I stumbled upon this place when we got tired during a cycling day trip from Koblenz to Sankt Goar. The food looked a little too gourmet for a cycling lunch but we took a table and were thankful that we did! While the prices are a little more expensive than our usual currywurst-and-schnitzel quickie lunch, the food was absolutely delicious. For example, pumpkin soup that is actually memorable! The entrees were well-prepared and generously portioned. We had to ask for more bread but the service was pretty good and friendly for a family-run German inn. Views of the river and the charming cute town are well-worth it. We did not feel out of place in our cycling clothes as other cyclers were also eating. The restaurant, however, was not full at all. In sum, an unexpected hidden gem. This is the type of place you hope to find when planning a trip. Happy we ran into it! Highly recommended.
