I tried most restaurants in st albans and that was my first time in locanda bagutta. we were originally sitting in the back, but the table was so close to another couple that we were moved into the more open piece of the restaurant that had no real ambiente. After we gave menus, we waited for 10-15 minutes to order drinks. the food was very overpriced to share a starter, 2 pornstars, a beer and 2 very small glasses wein came to £84 once the service fee was automatically added. overall very underwhelmed with all the experience far better Italian restaurants in st albans for half price. I will not return.
Good eating, beautiful place, very helpful waitress overall a good experience and I will be back
Prices look expensive for Italian fare but the quality is top notch. As the food is freshly cooked don't expect rapid service. We had baked aubergine, squid starters, followed by tagliatelle bolognese and penne pesto. All were as good a versions as I have had and we have travelled widely in Italy. A wide range of wine is available by the glass. Tellingly on the adjoining table was a large group of Italians. Yes you can get cheaper Italian food in St Albans but not at this quality level. The ambience was nice and cosy too. Will definitely return.
On the Saturday before Christmas, St Albans was heaving ... but there were only two other tables occupied when we arrived at the restaurant at 8.45, and one of those was finishing their meal. We were in the back room, which didn't have he greatest of decors or ambience. However, the food was very good, though I thought the menu was rather uninspiring, but my main problem was with the pricing. £12 for a bowl of pasta and bean soup ... similar for melon and ham...? The main courses were around £16, which for a vegetarian pasta seems rather steep. I think that when there are so many good restaurants in St Albans, you have to be careful that you don't price yourself out of the market, and suspect this was the reason the restaurant was so quiet. Not sure I would go back for all these reasons.
