Bidra med feedbackWonderful cafe overlooking the Wisconsin River. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and now part odf the visitor center. Excellent farm to table cuisine. Definitely worth making part of your visit.
Recommend this place! The best food we had since Omaha nine days ago. If that were in New York City, I'd be regular. We had awarded the Wisconsin flat bread and the Hickory Nut Curbcake cookie both. Service was also excellent. I asked for an ice cream coffee they didn't have. A few minutes later, a server with a real ice cream coffee appeared that did not dilute hot coffee. She told me she used a trick to do it.
I feel like this place would have to get good stars just based on the fact that there doesn't seem to be anyplace else to eat in the area, but the food was very good. Everything is grown locally and the food was more artisan that I would have expected for what is essentially a gift shop restaurant. I had initially thought about heading home from our trip and eating elsewhere, but I am very glad we stayed and I think you should too. :
The cafe has a beautiful setting overlooking a bend in the Wisconsin River. It is located in an architecturally distinctive building originally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, with construction overseen by William Wesley Peters and built by the Kraemer Brothers of Plain, WI. In addition to the great view and architecture, the food is very good with an American menu that has good variety including meat, fish and vegetarian. Pies are excellent. It is my favorite non-Italian restaurant in Wisconsin. Just for comparison, my favorite Italian is Biaggi's in Middleton/Madison.
I highly recommend this restaurant! It serves the best food we've had since leaving Omaha nine days ago. If it were located in New York City, I would be a regular customer. We tried the Wisconsin flatbread and the hickory nut shortbread cookie, both of which were outstanding. The service was excellent as well. I requested an iced coffee, which they didn't have on the menu, but a few minutes later, a server brought me a genuine iced coffee—not just watered-down hot coffee. She explained that she used a bartender's trick to prepare it.
